FMM: Cooking Habits

Hello from Hartford! 

I had a fairly uneventful trip up here and got to spend some real quality time with my Nook, which was awesome!  Now I’m hard at work (or not) trying to get some work accomplished.  I’m not gonna lie, after traveling half the day, I’m not really feeling work.  I’d love to just sneak out of here and go out and enjoy the glorious weather that is going on outside – 60s and sunny, it’s like the winter we never had in Florida!! 

Anyway… it’s Monday, and that means it’s Friend Makin’ Monday!  Hopefully I didn’t scare anyone off last week with my freakishly accurate Saved by the Bell quotes!  Today’s topic focuses on cooking – something I will do none of this week since I’m traveling.  Boo.  Here we go….

FMM: Cooking Habits

What is your favorite meal to prepare at home?  I don’t really have a favorite meal I like to cook.  I cook a bunch of different stuff and they’re all fun to cook! 

Do you like to experiment in the kitchen, or do you prefer to stick to the basics?  I like to experiment when I have the time.  Normally I have some sort of recipe I am following.  The last time I experimented I came up with a fabulous Kobe style meal.  It was delish! 

What is your favorite cookbook?  I don’t really have a favorite cookbook.  Most of the recipes I have I get from magazines or a website like

Do you have any tricks to share that help you reach your fruits and veggies goal for the day?  I already eat an abundance of fruit throughout the day, so that’s not a problem.  I love my fruit!

That would be a fruit skewer dipped in white chocolate.  Can I get an AMEN?
Veggies are tougher for me, since I hate them.  J  I do try and make at least one veggie with our dinner, but the options are limited to what I like … corn, potato, (yes I know these don't count) sweet potato, green beans, zucchini.  That’s about it.  Hehe.  I’m working on this though, I swear! 

What’s the most interesting thing you made last week?  Oh that’s easy – I made Courtney’s Healthy Chicken Parmesan Burgers and some yummy cheesy potatoes I found on Kristin’s Friday Favorites.  It was the first time I tried both recipes.  Both were fantastic and fun to try. 

How often do you watch cooking shows on TV?  I love watching Food Network on a Saturday or Sunday morning! 

When you’re hungry, where are you most likely to look first? The refrigerator, or the pantry? I strangely always open the fridge first, fully knowing that all of the yummy snacky food is in the pantry.  Apparently I think that one day that whole "drink a glass of water when you're hungry and you'll feel full" myth will actually work. 

List a few healthy staples that can always be found in your kitchen.  There are always apples and pears (from Costco) in my fridge.  And I always have All Whites Egg Whites because they are delicious.  I used to think egg whites would be gross, but they taste just like eggs!  And there’s always a stockpile of chicken breasts and chicken thighs in the freezer.  (Costco again)

Are you motivated to cook at home even when you’re eating alone?  It depends.  Like last week when I made the Parm Burgers I was alone, but most of the time, if Hubs isn’t home, I’m not making any kind of elaborate meal for myself.

How often do you try new recipes? I try new recipes every once in a while – when one really sings to me.  I have a bunch of “go to” easy recipes that I make on a semi regular basis, which are always good.  So when I find a good new recipe, I add it into the rotation.

Prom Night

Hello!  It’s Sunday already.  How did that happen?

It’s been a great weekend so far. Friday night I hung out with my girlfriends and we saw Five-Year Engagement, which was fantastic!  SO funny!!  Go see it!

Saturday I decided that working out was not in the cards. My achilles is still hurting, and I was going to go to Bikram, but didn’t know if that was such a good idea - all of the balancing on one leg and whatnot.  So I took the morning off from exercise, which was kind of nice - I lazed around, caught up on DVR shoes and made pancakes.  Not bad!

PROM NIGHT!!!  It was J’s junior prom, so we went big and did a photo session at the beautiful Hyatt Grand Cypress (where we had our wedding reception).

After they took off for prom, Hubs and I met some friends out at Epcot.  And then we ended up at Hollywood Studios for the remainder of the evening.  Fun stuff!

So that’s what’s been going on here.  Tomorrow I travel back up to Connecticut, so today I will be doing laundry and packing and whatnot.  Fun stuff.  

I, sadly, don’t have any workout goals this week.  It’s a travel week and y’all know I very rarely get my butt to the gym when I travel.  But this actually comes at a good time and works out well - I need an excuse to rest my ankle/achilles, so this is the perfect week to do that.  I don’t even have to pack sneakers now!  Usually I pack them, they take up all this room in my suitcase, and I never use them.  So there ya go!  

And ironically, guess what this week’s challenge is in 52 Small Changes?  Yep, this week’s challenge is “Work Up a Sweat” - which urges you to get regular aerobic exercise at least 30 minutes a day.  Any other week this is a given.  But this week, it’s likely not happening due to travel and my injury.  Sheesh.  I’ll pick this one up next week when I am back in tip top shape.

Morning Scare

Happy Friday!!  WOOO!!

I sound happy, but I’m not.  I am in pain.  My Achilles hurts so badly today that I made an appointment with another Orthopaedic for that second opinion.  I’m not sure what I did last night, but it’s bad.  I was doing the stretching exercises that they gave me at the doctor, and perhaps I stretched a little too much, but I could barely walk without limping last night and this morning.  Now, since I have been walking around all day, it’s not so bad, but there is still definitely pain.  It was so bad last night that I iced it.  And I HATE icing.  It’s so cold!  (another profound statement from Kerry)

So, needless to say, I didn’t get up and workout.  I took today as the perfect opportunity to rest and sleep in.  Unfortunately that didn’t happen.  At 6:00 I woke up to loud sounds – sounds of someone breaking into our house!  I woke up Hubs (who had no clue there was noise) and told him someone was breaking into our front door.  He grabbed the baseball bat beside our bed (we’ve got high tech security here) and went out to investigate.  Meanwhile, I’m hearing voices and think that either someone is outside trying to get in, or they are upstairs stealing stuff. 

Hubs goes to check things out, flips on the light outside and sees a little black kitty cat standing outside our front door.  (our front door is glass)  Apparently Zeus, the attack cat, was literally in attack mode and attacking our front door.  He was hissing, he was growling, he was batting at the door on his hind legs, trying to get to the kitty.  And the kitty outside was just standing there watching.  So, yeah, no break ins, just a crazy cat thinking he’s Cujo or something.

It was definitely good for a laugh. 

Tonight I have fun plans!  First I’m going to get my bangs cut (haircuts are always fun!).  I thought I wanted to “grow out my bangs” but they are driving me insane, so I’m cutting them.  Then I am going out with my gal pals.  We’re going to dinner (Pei Wei) and a movie (Five-Year Engagement).  Can’t wait!!! 

But first, I have to go teach people how to do their jobs.  See ya later!

Deep Thoughts On My Morning 5K

Hi!  I can’t believe it’s already Thursday, this week is totally flying by! 

This morning I had a really hard time getting out of bed.  The alarm went off at 5:15 and I didn’t even hear it the first 3 times it went off (Hubs hit snooze).  I knew I had missed my threshold for going to the gym (if I’m not out the door by 6, it’s not happening), so I changed my plans to do an outdoor walking workout instead.  So after 3 or 4 more hits of the snooze alarm (seriously, we’re were determined to keep sleeping!) we finally got up! 

I am SO glad that I switched up my workout to an outdoors one today.  The weather here has been fantastic lately.  We’ve had crazy warm temperatures in the 80s and 90s since February, but earlier this week we had highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.  WEIRD.  Because of this, morning temperatures have been PERFECTION, and today was no different.  It was about 56 degrees this morning, with some humidity, so it was perfectly perfect for a morning walk.  That, coupled with the fact that it’s really light out at 6am, made for a perfect morning workout.  Could I say perfect anymore?  I can, PERFECT!

This was the first time I did a full on walking workout with my new shoes and inserts, and I will say that the insert DO change the way my left foot strikes.  Normally, I walk on the way outside of my left foot, but I noticed immediately that the inserts direct my foot more inward, which takes some of the strain off of my ankle, which is definitely a good thing.  I even tried running a little bit today.  For the first 20 steps I had NO pain, and I literally screamed “HALLELUJAH” to my neighbor watering the yard.  But I got too excited too quick, on step 25 I had crazy shooting pain not in my ankle, but my Achilles tendon.  GRRRRRR!  So.Over.This.  So I stopped running and resorted to walking.

I did my normal 2 mile loop around the neighborhood and then decided that I didn’t want to go home just yet.  The weather was so perfect and it was just such a nice morning, I decided to take it to the hills in my neighborhood.  We have some crazy hills in our neighborhood that I normally avoid like the plague, because they tucker me out.  Today, I went for it.  Man, some of the hills are like scaling mountains, I kid you not.  I’m not sure why we even have hills in our neighborhood, it’s flat everywhere else in our city except our neighborhood.  Whatevs.  Anyway, the hills got my heart pumping big time!! 

All in all, I did 3.3 miles in 45 minutes.  It felt SO good to do a good distance walking.  Though, I will say that I do get some lower back pain when I walk (as opposed to running) – what’s that about?  What am I doing wrong?  Anyone want to diagnose me?  But yeah, awesome awesome morning workout.  I might do the same workout again tomorrow! 

When I got home I realized that I was running late (usually I am in the shower by 7:30, but I didn’t get home til after 7:30 – oops), so no strength workout today outside of the Daily Duo, which I eeked out after stretching my Achilles. 

Today’s walk got me thinking though – what if I could never run again?  Will I still do my half marathons?  I don’t know that I could just walk a half marathon.  I’m sure I could (I’ve walked a majority of a half before), but would I want to?  I do know that I would TOTALLY miss them if I didn’t do them.  Half marathons have become “my thing” – I love the feeling of a long race, I love dressing up, I love the energy and excitement that you feel from the thousands of people around you and I love the sense of accomplishment when you finish.  Not many people can say they’ve done a half marathon, so I love being able to say “I did another half marathon!”  So that said,  I don’t think I would be able to totally give them up.  I’m already looking towards my 10-Miler in September and thinking about how I need to train and condition for a long race like that just walking.  I’ve never trained just walking before, but that might be my fate for that race.  I still need to get that second opinion from an Orthopaedic….

Ooh, sorry to get all serious there.  Just thinking and typing – a dangerous combination!

Yes, I have.  During the Disneyland Half Marathon in 2008 I thought I was having a heart attack around mile 3.  Seriously, it was a weird feeling that made me stop in my tracks.  I was scared and decided to just walk the whole thing.  I actually contemplated quitting, but I kept going (because I really wanted that Coast to Coast medal - dork).  So I walked 10 miles.  It was tough stuff.  I feel like walking briskly is harder than running sometimes.  After I got home from that race, I made a Cardiology appointment and found out that I didn't have a heart attack.  Apparently I was severely dehydrated and it had a weird affect on me during the race.  So weird.  Now I know how to properly hydrate before and during a race.

Good Cooking

Hi there!  I totally forgot to blog yesterday!  What the heck?  I thought about it a couple of times during the day but got busy working on something else.  And then last night I spent a large part of the evening in the kitchen and just didn't get around to it.  Did you miss me?  (please say you did... thanks!)

Yesterday morning I got up and went to the gym and did a fabulous cardio workout.  It was actually the same workout I did on Saturday - 10-20-30 bike, treadmill, elliptical (respectively).  It was good and went by extremely fast thanks to my Nook.  I just can't tell you how much I love that thing.  Sarah and Sabrina, now I know what you were talking about!!   

Last night I came home and played in the kitchen.  Hubs was away on a business trip, and I found a couple of recipes online that I wanted to try out.  First was the Healthy Chicken Parmesan Burger that I found on Courtney's blog.  I did it sans that bun, and it was delicious!!  So very good.  I will be making that again for sure.  And as a side item I made Parmesan Potatoes that I found on one of Kristin's Friday Favorites.  Y'all, if you have never checked out Kristin's Friday Favorites, go and do it now!!  She does a post every Friday linking you to beautiful pictures, wonderful recipes, cute outfits, and other neat internet finds.  So much inspiration out there!  You can check out ALL of her Friday Faves at this link.  Seriously, it's such good reading.  Go now!!! 

Anyway, my time in the kitchen was fun and I now have two new recipes to add to the rotation!  In addition to the chicken and the potatoes, I made quick and easy Banana Pudding for dessert.  That's where you make banana instant pudding and then layer it with Nilla Wafers and bananas.  So easy, and so good and not too many calories when you make it with skim milk and low fat Nillas.  However, I probably ate half a box of Nillas as I was building the pudding, before dinner.  Just sayin'.

Happy Monday!

This morning did not start the way I wanted it to.  I was planning on hopping out of bed and gleefully going to the gym to complete an hour’s worth of cardio.  This did not happen.  I ate too much last night (dang cheese and caramel gourmet popcorn!) so I felt full and ooky when I woke up.  And I went to bed too late (had to stay up to see who got kicked off Celebrity Apprentice!), so when the alarm went off this morning all I wanted to do was go back to sleep.  So I did.

This is OK though.  I had a rest day built into this week, so I just took it a tad early.  No biggie. 
It’s Monday and that means its Friend Makin’ Monday – what what!! 

Today’s topic is pretty cool, it’s just a random Q&A, but the questions are kind of awesome (especially the last one!).  Check it out!


Share one thing that has changed about you since you began blogging.  Accountability!  Before I started the blog I had fallen off of the workout train.  I was falling into a lazy rut of not wanting to run or exercise and I was not happy with myself.  I was frustrated because I really really wanted to get back on the train, but I was just lazy.  Enter the blog.  I started the blog when I started Insanity of June of last year.  I wanted to chronicle my go at the Insanity 60-day Challenge and it turned into this little gem on the internet.  Over the last (almost) year, I have lost weight, gotten into the best shape I’ve been in in a long time, and have discovered some things about myself, like a passion for writing.  I LOVE blogging.  It’s like my little outlet to tell whoever what’s going on with me. Even if no one is reading, it’s still great to get my stories out.  It’s therapeutic.

If you were forced to give up chocolate or potato chips for an entire year which one would you choose to live without?  That one is easy – chocolate.  I actually don’t like chocolate, so that makes this question very easy.  Potato chips, I love them so much.

What’s more attractive?  A man in a suit, or a man in uniform?  A suit, definitely!

If you could be a guest star on a reality show which one would it be?  Right now I am kind of obsessed with the Crasher shows on DIY and HGTV – House Crashers, Room Crashers, Bath Crashers, Yard Crashers, Kitchen Crashers – so I think I would like to be “crashed” by either Josh Temple (House Crashers) or Ahmed from Yard Crashers (because our yard needs help). 

What is the last meal that you prepared for yourself?  I made my lunch this morning.  Leftover “Mexi-cken” and brown rice.  The last meal I cooked was baked chicken, boiled potatoes and corn on the cob.

Is your hair colored, or is it natural?  It’s colored.  Highlights and lowlights.  It’s not as blonde as it has been in the past, I’m trying to get closer to my natural color – a light brownish, reddish color.

If you could leave town today and go anywhere, where would you go?  A beachy tropical island. 

Do you prefer to exercise at the gym, at home or outside?  All of the above.  I have a new found love for the gym, since I’m not running outside much right now.  I like my at home sweaty strength workouts because they make me feel strong.  And I LOVE my outdoor workouts for this reason.

Have you ever asked someone out on a date?  Oh gosh, I can’t remember.  Maybe back in high school?  I’ve been with Hubs for almost 10 years now, so I can’t remember back that far.  But I don’t think I was that gutsy back then to ask a guy out.  I did give a guy my phone number once.  He never called.  Jerk.

How many cups of coffee do you drink on an average day?  Zero.  I don’t like coffee.

Do you pack lightly, or do you over pack?  I overpack all of the time.  I think I want “options” when I travel, but I usually end up not wearing half of what I brought.

What color are your nails now?  I have clear polish on my nails, and it’s chipping.  I will be fixing this tonight - homemade mani-/pedi-!

If you could have lunch with one notable (living) person who inspires you who would it be? Ooh, tough.  My go to “living or dead” answer is always Walt Disney.  He was (is) so dang interesting!

Who is your favorite professional athlete?  I would say Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), but the Magic are on my nerves lately.

Gum or mints?  Gum, fo’ sho’!

Have you ever eaten crawfish?  No, I don’t like seafood.  And I think I am allergic to shellfish.  I tried crab cakes at my wedding tasting and the roof of my mouth itched.  Weird.  We actually ended up having crab cakes at the wedding (because they were delicious) but I didn’t eat them.  I didn’t really eat much that night.  Sad.

List one or more human characteristics that are a complete turn-off.  Complaining.  I complain sometimes, but when it’s constant, and coming from other people, it makes me crazy. 

What is your favorite season?  All of them.  Even hot hot hot Florida summers. 

Do you prefer to shake hands or hug?  I’m a hugger. 

Can you quote lines from Saved by the Bell from memory?  If so, what’s your favorite?  I LOVED Saved by the Bell!  I used to think I could recite anything from that show, but I am drawing a complete blank at the moment.  I always thought it was funny that Slater called Jessie “Mama” – “Hey mama!”  Oh, oh, I know all of the words to the song that the Kelly, Jessie and Lisa made a music video for.  Remember, that one episode where they could miraculously sing?  And the music video where they wore the leotards and were jumping on trampolines (so dumb) … “One two three, bend, one two three stretch ... Here’s a message that I’m sending to you, you can do what you want to do, a little work never hurt no one…”  OMG, why do I know that?   “Put your mind to, go for it, you’re gonna break a sweat, rock and roll, you ain’t seen nothing yet…”  OMG, that song is now in my head!

Weekend Fun With My Prom Dress

Hi there!  Happy Sunday!  I've been away from my computer all weekend so I thought I'd do a weekend wrap up here for you, K?

Friday night - It was dreary and rainy and Hubs and I were beat, so it was one of those perfect, "let's go to bed at 8:30" kind of nights.  I love those kinds of nights.  Hubs was asleep by 9, I stayed up and read my book and was asleep by 9:45.  The problem with this, I woke up at 2 thinking it was morning.  Meh.

Saturday - I don't know why, but I woke up Saturday morning very excited to go to the gym.  That doesn't happen often.  Must be the new shoes.  My plan was to do a bunch of cardio to try out my new shoes and inserts, so I did a 10-20-30 workout - 10 minutes in the bike, 20 minutes on the treadmill walking at an incline (didn't attempt running today) and 30 minutes on the elliptical.  It was such a great workout!! And I loved my new shoes.  I did lots of cardio to break them in, and I read my Nook the whole time. You guys, I LOVE MY NOOK!  I actually finished my entire Nook book in less than a week.  I never read a book in less than a week.  This thing is magical.  

After my cardio I did a weights workout that looked like this...

Everything was burning by the end, so I think it did it right.  I was bushed at the end of the workout, but we had a fun day ahead.  We were in our way to my parents house for the weekend!

My new car went on its first road trip as we drove an hour and a half west to Clearwater (near Tampa/St. Pete).  We got there around 2:30 and just chilled the rest of the day with my parents.  Literally, we stayed home and just talked, ate, laughed, played Yahtzee and played dress up.

Dress up???

We got to talking about J and how she is going to prom next weekend (yes, PROM! How old am I?!). That got me thinking about my prom dress, which I loved. My prom dress was the bomb and I knew it was still hanging in my childhood closet so I went to go visit it.

And then of course my mom dared me to try it on. Ha!  I was certain that after nearly 17 years it would not fit me.  Wrong!  Y'all it totally fit!!!  Holy cow!!!  Granted it was a tad snug in many areas and I would never leave the house wearing it, but I could still zip it and it looked pretty OK on.

This led to me trying on all kinds of other dresses in the closet and some jackets from my childhood.

I actually ended up bringing home one of my dresses because it fit well. Just in case I need something formal one day, or maybe if we go on a cruise and I need a formal night dress. Ya never know.
After the dress up fun we had dinner - the biggest steaks I’ve ever seen, giant baked potatoes and corn on the cob.  Everything was giant and delicious.  And then it was time for a Yahtzee tournament.  Hubs dominated the first game, he got two Yahtzees in one game! And then mom took the crown and won the next two.  She got two Yahtzees in one game too.  Craziness, that never happens!  After that, we were going to watch We Bought a Zoo, but opted for House Hunters instead.  Great night!

Sunday - We woke up to rain, so our beach plans were foiled.  But we did end up getting down to the water.  We went to lunch at Columbia Restaurant - an amaaaazing Cuban restaurant - on Sand Key.  It was beautiful, right on the water, breezy, not rainy and very nice.  We all had Cuban sandwiches, cuz they do them right.  It was a great lunch.  And then it was time to jam on out of Clearwater and head home.  Great, great weekend.  It was so fun to hang out with my parents all weekend!  

And now tomorrow is Monday.  Sheesh, already?  I guess that means I need to come up with a plan for working out this week, huh?  Alright, here we go...

And this week’s challenge from 52 Small Changes … another one I already subscribe to: “Eat 5 square meals per day.”  I do this already, though I must say I sometimes fail at my mid-morning meal because I’m too busy at work.  So I am going to work on this.  I’m also going to focus on eating more fruit as snacks, because I haven’t been eating as much fruit in the last couple of weeks (case in point, I ate Cheezits for my mid-afternoon snack on Friday - blerg!).  So, back to fruit, and be good with the 5 meals a day thing.  Easy peasy.

Gas and Lemonade

Hey there!  Happy Friday!!!  I am so very glad the workweek is almost over! 

I had an eventful morning this morning.  On my way to work my car told me that I had 38 miles to go before I needed gas.  Didn’t think much about it since it’s only 10 miles to work.  I figured I’d get gas after work.  And then about half way to work, this happened…

All of the sudden it said I had ??? miles until empty.  What’s up with that?  I went from 38 miles to ??? miles?  It’s only 10 miles to work.  So I had to make a quickie stop at the gas station on the way into work, because I was not cool with having to push my car into the parking lot at work today.  And then I had to drive around the gas station umpteen times because my gas tank on my new car is on the opposite side of what I’m used to.  I had no idea!  In every car I have had, the gas tank has always been on the driver side.  This car, passenger side.  Nice.  So I got gas and then immediately had a hankering for a Chick Fil A Diet Lemonade, and it just so happened that Chick Fil A was right next to the gas station, so this happened.

Mmm, good. 

No workout today.  I had planned on this because I worked out Monday-Thursday and thought a Friday off day would be nice.  Though, I was a little bit excited about my new shoes, so I made a deal with myself – if the alarm went off and I really wanted to go out and use my new shoes, I would.  But if I felt like I needed to sleep more, I would do that instead.  And, of course, that’s what I did.  The alarm went off and I tried to go back to sleep but the cat was all up in my business wanting food, so I never got back to sleep, but I did laze around for another half hour or so.  Nice. 

This weekend we have a little getaway planned.  We are driving down to my parents’ house in Clearwater for the weekend.  Fun fun!  The plan was to go to the beach, however, my mom tells me there is a 70% chance of rain Saturday and Sunday.  BOO!  So this means we will be playing a lot of Scrabble indoors this weekend.  Hey, fun for me!  I love Scrabble.  Hubs, not so much, but we will teach him our ways this weekend and make him a Scrabble convert!

Got Me Some Shoes

I had a fabulous shoe buying experience this evening!

As you know I have been meaning to get new running shoes for a while now to accommodate all of my new gear for my injury (inserts, ankle brace, club foot).  So I went to my local running store and screamed at the top of my lungs “I need help!”  OK, not really, but I wanted to corner someone who would listen to my issue and recommend the right shoes for my problem, instead of just throwing shoes at me.  

The people at the store are SO knowledgeable about shoes and gear it’s crazy.  The man helping me listened to my entire sob story about my tendinitis and my ankle pain.  I explained to him about my pain and my trip to the orthopaedic and what they said and what they prescribed and what I thought my problem was and then I showed him my shredded shoe with the gaping toe hole, and after some careful thought (where I was sure I stumped him) he knew exactly what to do.  

He looked at my ankle, made me walk, gave me some ideas on ankle strengthening exercises and suggested I get a second opinion from another orthopaedic.  He also said that a cushioning shoe wasn’t what I needed and suggested I go with a neutral shoe.  Interesting.  He said I needed a shoe with more stability in the middle and a bigger toe box.  And to accommodate all of my gear I didn’t have to get a bigger size, but I did have to get a wide size.

I ended up with Asics Fortitudes and they are super duper comfy, even with the hard (uncomfortable) inserts in them.  And he put the inserts in for me, so I am totally ready to go for a run.  Or a walk.  We’ll see how it goes.  New running shoes are always exciting.  Even when you’re not running.

But overall, GREAT buying experience today!  So glad I went!

Morning Outdoor Workouts

Good morning to you!  It’s Thursday, if you can believe it!

I had a nice morning. I did something that I haven’t done in a while – I took my workout outside.  Back in the day when I was running like 4 or 5 days a week (way back in the day), I would really enjoy my early morning runs.  There’s just something about dawn, right when the sun is coming up, that is so peaceful and nice.  It was kind of my favorite time of day.  Since I haven’t been running as much, I haven’t gotten to enjoy time outside in the mornings since I’m most often in the gym at this time now.  So today, I decided to go back to my roots and get outside!

Since I can’t run (I tried again today, and OWIE!) my plan was to go on a nice walk this morning.  I did 2 miles (was gonna do three, but opted to cut it short and do some strength afterwards instead) outside in the neighborhood around 6:30 and man, this is the perfect time of day.  It’s semi-sorta light out, the sun hasn’t started to rise yet, but it’s light enough out to not be dark (profound statement right there).  It was just nice. 

On my walk I analyzed the way my left foot struck the ground, since I’m now trying to self diagnose my problem.  I walk on the way outside of my foot.  Way way outside, like if I turned my foot a little more I’d be walking on my ankle. (ha)  So I’m assuming this is what is causing my issue.  But it’s just weird, I’ve been walking/running this way for years and years and now it’s causing problems and pain?  Weird.  Well, yeah, I guess if you keep wearing on something for so long eventually it’s going to give out or cause pain (dur).  The bright side, I’m going to get fitted for new running shoes today after work – so here’s hoping this is the answer to all of my problems!

Another thing I noticed – walking is tough!  I almost feel like running is easier on to me.  I know that sounds strange, but as I was walking I found that I felt things in my lower back more than when I run.  And the backs of my legs and buns were also burning more than when I run.  Hmm, walking might give me more benefit than my super slow slow running did.  Who knows.  We’ll see.  Anyway, after my eye opening 2 miler, I did an arm workout that looked like this…

And then I did my Daily Duo and called it a day.  Overall, great little workout!

And I had some new tunes to listen to as I went.  I downloaded a bunch of stuff last night, like that weird Gotye song that everyone’s raving about and then I also downloaded the Glee version of that song featuring Matt Bomer, which is so so good.  And he is just so so delicious.  (any White Collar fans in the house?)  Don’t know who I’m talking about, check it out.

Who knew he could sing?  I did not.

LOVE White Collar (it comes back July 10th, yay!).  I was a Glee fan, but fell off this season.  Wasn't digging the storyline continuity at all (or lack thereof) so I dumped it.  But obviously I still check out the music on iTunes.
