Cooking Goooood

Hello there!  Happy Thursday!  I am so super glad it’s Thursday already because I am off work tomorrow which makes it a 4-day weekend for me!  Woowoo!

Today started off good.  Back in the gym.  Did the same workout I did on Tuesday – 10 minutes on the bike, 15 on the elliptical and 20 on the treadmill.  Good cardio morning!  I was feeling it in my legs this morning from all of the lunges and squats I did yesterday.  I haven’t done anything like that in a while, so I’m not surprised I’m sore.  Not Jillian sore, but sore nonetheless.

Last night when I got home I was in the mood to COOK!  On the menu:  meatloaf, mashed potatoes and corn.  Mmm.  Once I got the potatoes peeled, cut and on the stove boiling and the meatloaf in the oven, I decided to make something fun for dessert.  See, this past weekend I revamped my recipe book (now everything is in its own plastic page sleeve!) and I found a recipe that I printed off from a blog (I cannot for the life of me remember which one or else I’d give cred) for Peanut Butter Truffles.  Also known as Peanut Butter Balls or Buckeyes.  I don’t like chocolate, but I love white chocolate, so I used that for this recipe, which was, by the way, the easiest recipe ever.

Peanut Butter Truffles (or Balls)

Ingredients:
1 ½ cups of Rice Krispies
1 ¼ cups of crunchy peanut butter
1 cup of graham cracker crumbs
½ cup of powdered sugar
Milk chocolate or white chocolate for melting and dipping

Instructions:
1)     Put the first four ingredients into a bowl and mix.  Use your hands, it’s easier and much more fun.
2)     Once mixed, place in refrigerator for one hour.
3)     After an hour, form mixture into small balls (or large ones, whatever).
4)     Melt chocolate according to instructions on package.
5)     Dip the … truffles into chocolate.
6)     Refrigerate one hour to let harden.

Mine turned out totally ugly (remember these cookies?  I’m not good at making baked goods look good!), but who cares, they taste DELICIOUS!  And they’re not healthy at all, unless you count peanut butter as healthy (which I kind of do).   So try them.  You can thank me later!

And that’s all the knowledge I have for today.  I know it’s Thursday, which means it’s Morning Playlist Thursday, but today I was on the phone all the way to work so I didn’t get to listen to any music.  Boo.  Next week.

Alright, I’m outta here.  Have a wonderful rest of your day!!

Questions for you …
- How often do you get the urge to cook and bake?
- What did you make for dinner last night?

Egg-Plosion

Hey hey, happy Wednesday!  I’m SO glad it’s Wednesday.  That means I only have two more days of work because I have Friday off for something monumental.  I will explain what that’s all about later….

This morning started crazy.  Our alarm did not go off this morning because someone (me) accidentally set the weekend alarm instead of the weekday alarm.  Yeah, we have a weird alarm clock that has both a weekday setting and a weekend setting.  Strange, I know.  Anyway, I woke up right at the time I would normally wake up on a gym day, 5:40, and I hit Hubs and exclaimed “IT’S 5:40 THE ALARM DIDN”T GO OFF!” in a frenzy.  We both obviously didn’t care too much because we both fell right back asleep for another 20 minutes.  At this point it was too late to go to the gym, but not too late to get up and do something.

I wasn’t in the mood to go out on a walk because the humidity right now is RIDICULOUS (thanks Isaac for sticking around), so instead I opted to do a strength workout at home (since I’ve been neglecting strength training for a little while now) while watching the end of White Collar, which I fell asleep during last night.  I’m glad I did this because I haven’t lunged, squatted or lifted weights in a while.  Here’s what I did…

Overall, good workout.  Nothing too strenuous, but enough to say I did something.  Right?  Right.

Afterwards I made breakfast and had a little snafu happen while making my egg sandwich…

My egg totally exploded all over the microwave.  And EGG-plosion if you will.  Har har.  I had pieces of egg all over the microwave, but what was left in the bowl was salvageable and made for an EGG-cellent egg sammy.  I am convinced that egg sandwiches are THE best breakfast ever.  Egg (or egg white, today I opted for yolk), white American cheese and a Toufayan Everything Bagel Thin is just about the most delicious thing I can eat in the morning.  Mmmm.  I could eat another right now, but I won’t.

Speaking of “mmm” I tried Quinoa for the first time last night.  Quinoa itself is not “mmm” however, the dish I made last night was.  And it was pretty much the easiest meal I have ever made.  I got inspiration from a Campbell’s soup ad in a magazine.  You take a can of Campbell’s Chunky Beef with Country Vegetables soup and you heat it up in the microwave (or the stovetop).

That actually exploded in my microwave last night too.  I’ve been cleaning my micro a whole lot in the last couple of days.  And then you make the quinoa the normal way on the stove.  And then you take a bowl, you put some quinoa in the bowl and you ladle some soup over the top of it.  Easy!  And delicious!  I call it Quinoa Stew.  It sounds tough and homemade, but it’s not.  Yum.

And that’s my story for today, so I should get going.  Lots to do!  But I will leave you with this one question that I ponder a lot this time of year ….

Why do TV networks make their meteorologists and reporters stand outside during a hurricane?  They’re getting pelted with rain, blown around by the wind and just look miserable.  Couldn’t they just show a picture of the sideways rain?  I mean, we get the point.  We don’t need to see Al Roker blown over by the wind.  Although, that video is rather funny.  But this is just something that I have wondered for a long long while.  You?

Questions for you …
- Have you ever tried Quinoa?  Know any good ways to jazz it up, because it’s rather tasteless.
- Do you know how to make eggs in the microwave without them exploding?

tobyMac Tuesday

Hello!  Happy Tuesday!

So, yesterday I did not work out because Tropical Storm Isaac paid us a visit.  And let me tell you, I felt that all day.  Not Isaac, but the fact that I didn’t work out.  When I got home yesterday evening I was useless.  I was SO TIRED and just a lump on the couch all night.  I actually napped for about 15 minutes around 7:30.  Tonight, I am determined not to be a lump and comatose on the couch when I get home.  And I think my activities this morning will help combat that!

This morning I hemmed and hawed about getting up and going to the gym.  I was sleeping so peacefully (for the first time in a couple of nights), but I made myself get up and go.  I’m glad I did!  (aren’t I always?  Yes.)  I did 10 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes on the treadmill.  So easy, yet so effective and necessary for my day.  I’m in a much better mood today and I feel so much more awake.  I also started a new Nook book today at the gym.  I’m not sure who it’s by, but it’s called Good Luck and it’s about a girl who wins the lottery.  Totally mindless chick lit, but it’s totally enjoyably while I hoof it on the treadmill.

Today is also an awesome day because the new tobyMac CD was released today!  Should I say “CD” – since no one  really buys CDs anymore?  I have been anxiously awaiting his new album because I just love him.

It’s crazy to think that a year ago, I didn’t really even know his music!  Hubs got me hooked on him last year because we had tickets to go see him perform at Night of Joy out at Disney (remember this?), and I had to do my research because I hate going to a concert when I don’t know any of the songs and can’t sing along.  Hubs has been a HUGE fan of tobyMac since the DC Talk days in middle school and high school, so he introduced me to his music and dang, it’s good!  It’s the best workout music, if you’re looking for good “pump you up and make you feel great” music.  Anyway, he released his latest album today, called Eye On It and it’s, of course, awesome!

I became such a huge fan of his after that concert at Night of Joy, and we actually went to another one of his concerts earlier this year and we’re going to another next weekend!  He will be performing at Universal Studios’ version of Disney’s Night of Joy called Rock the Universe.  It’s a 2 night event, Friday and Saturday, and tobyMac is performing on Saturday night and another one of our faves, Newsboys, is performing on Friday night.  So exciting!!  So the timing of this new album was just great!

Anyway, I should get going.  Lots of work to do!  Have a wonderful rest of your day!!

Questions for you …
- Any tobyMac or Newsboys fans?
- Did you workout today?  What did you do?

Here's What's Been Up + FMM

Well hello there!  Yes, I am still around!  I apologize for not writing since last Wednesday!  It’s been busy up in here, so I thought I’d give you a fun recap of what’s been going on in my life the last couple of days…

Thursday - We wrapped up our class in Hartford (yay, 5 down, only 3 more to go!) and then I went to dinner with my boss and then went out for drinks with my co-worker Tracy, who I LOVE!  And by drinks, I mean I had a milkshake and she had wine.  :)

Friday – I finally made my way back home to Florida from a week in Connecticut.  So long gorgeous weather, it’s back to 90+ degrees and Tropical Storm Isaac.  Yay!  Hubs surprised me at the airport on Friday evening.  Usually he just picks me up at the baggage claim, but this time he came all the way in to the airport greet me.  Aww!  I actually almost walked right by him because I wasn’t expecting him to be inside the airport.  And then I surprised him by making a phenomenal dinner suggestion that made him very happy – Friendly’s!  Because really, after a long hard week (and a long plane ride), what’s better than greasy food and sundaes?  Um, nothing.  It was fantabulous!

Saturday – I woke up with an achy back and immediately put my workout clothes on and went to the gym.  I knew that a workout (since I hadn’t done one since Wednesday) would be just what I needed to make me feel better, and I was totally right.  I did 10 minutes on the bike, 15 on the elliptical and then 40 on the treadmill (2+ miles, walking).  It felt SOOOO good, and it allowed me to finish my book (Emily Giffin’s Heart of the Matter  - which was EXCELLENT).  After that, Hubs and I did some work around the house, ran errands and just chilled.  It’s so good coming home from a trip and just being at home.

Sunday – I woke up at the crack of dawn (6am) with another achy back.  I’m thinking maybe we need to finally trade in our 12 year old mattress?  It was rainy out, so I couldn’t take a walk and my gym wasn’t open yet, so I just did some stretching and made myself feel better.  Hubs and I made an early morning trip to Costco (LOVE) and then came home and putzed around.  That afternoon I went with my mom-in-law and J to see a performance of Hairspray at our church.

OMG it was freakin’ PHENOMENAL!  It was like Broadway caliber, that’s how amazing it was.  And it totally made me want to bust out my Hairspray DVD and watch the movie again!  I love that movie!  SO GREAT, I enjoyed every second of it!  After that we went over to my in-laws for some dinner and that was it.  Great day and weekend!

Monday – Today I had every intention of getting up and going to the gym, but Tropical Storm Isaac decided to blow through Orlando precisely at the time I get up to go to the gym.  It was MONSOONING outside at 5:30, the wind was howling, the rain was blowing sideways against our windows, it was pretty crazy.  So I knew driving to the gym probably wasn’t the best idea.  So I just hunkered down and went back to sleep.  Should’ve done a home workout (Jillian is getting a little dusty), but on a rainy morning, what’s better than sleeping in, right?

And it’s Monday – Friend Makin’ Monday!  I haven’t done this in a couple of weeks because I have been busy, so I am back!

  Topic:  Tech Questions

1.  PC or Mac?  I’m a PC girl when it comes to computers.  But I own everything else Apple – iPod(s), iPhone  - I LOVE them.  I just worry about making the PC to Mac transition.  It might be weird!

2. When did you get your first computer?  Well, if you want to go WAY back, my family got our first computer – a Commodore 64 – back when I was in 3rd or 4th grade.  It was the bomb.  I didn’t get my own computer until after I graduated college.  I went to college way back when people didn’t take computers with them to college, we went to computer labs.  Heck, when I went to college the internet or email wasn’t even big yet.  (and no, I’m not THAT old, this was like 1996)  But yeah, I remember learning about e-mail when I was a sophomore and thinking it was the coolest invention everrrr.  "You mean I can write letters without having to buy stamps?"

3. Do you use cable, DSL or something else?  I have cable internet.  Wireless – when it wants to work.

4. When choosing a laptop, do you think it’s more important to choose the fastest one, or the lightest one?  My laptop is going on 5 years old, which is pretty much a relic in today’s world, but it works and I like it.  It does black out on me more than I care to admit, and I have punched the screen a couple of times because it’s super slow “waking up” from going to sleep (no, I’m not kidding about the punching, but it’s a light punch), so I’m going to go with “fast” as being most important.

5. What kind of cell phone do you own?  I have an iPhone and I love it.  I tried to resist for so long.  I always thought, it’s a PHONE, if I wanted a computer I’d use a computer.  But I finally succumbed about a year and a half ago and man, I would never go back to just a phone.  Never ever.

6. How do you carry your laptop when you travel?  I have an awesome Samsonite rolling bag (that I STOLE!) that I use on my business trips to cart around my computer.  I used to have an over the shoulder bag and it was so heavy with my laptop inside.  I remember walking around the Atlanta airport (miles and miles) with it on my arm and my shoulder was sore for days.  On that trip I bought my first rolly bag.  Best thing I ever did for business trips.

And I didn’t STEAL it.  I went to Staples and I saw the bag and the price below it said $79.99.  For a Samsonite bag of that size, that was a really amazing deal.  So I decided to buy it.  I got to the check out, the girl rang it up and she told me it was $159.99.  Um, noooo?  I told her that the price underneath it said it was $79.99.  She had someone go back and check and sure enough those bags were erroneously in the spot marked $79.99.  I guess Staples has a policy that if it’s in the wrong spot with the wrong price beneath it, you get it for that price!  JACKPOT!  So I lovingly call my rolly bag “the bag I stole” because I literally got it for half off.  Nice huh?

7. How many e-mails do you send on an average day? For work?  Um, it depends on the day I think.  But a lot, because I hate talking to people on the phone.  Email me or IM me at work.  Personal?  Not many.  I rarely check my home email.  I check it on my phone, but that’s it.

8. Do you ever blog using your iPad or similar tablet? I don’t have a tablet.  I do have a Nook Color, which is sort of a tablet, but I would never blog from it.  Too small.  I am guilty of blogging from my iPhone in airports though.  Those are those posts that looking all funkily formatted.

9. What do you use more often – a desktop or a laptop? I only have laptops – at work and at home.  We have a desktop at home, but I only use it if I am printing something.

10.  As a blogger, are there other gadgets that you need to get the job done?  If so, what are they?  My camera, for sure.  Even though I rarely take pictures and post them.  I need to be better about that!

And that’s it from me!  I’ve missed writing, so be prepared to hear a lot from me this week - fair warning!!

Questions for you …
- How’s the weather where you are?
Isaac is currently dumping on Orlando, so, not pretty.
- Did you work out today?

Missions Accomplished

Hi there!  Happy Wednesday!  Even though it’s almost over.

Today was a good day.  I sat in class all day having a mental tug of war in my head – do I go to happy hour or do I go to the gym?  Happy hours aren’t really my thing, but my boss and my boss’s boss were going with a class of their own (like 30 people I don’t know) and they asked me to go.  But by the end of the day, I was tired and I really just did not want to go out and hang out in a bar, so I texted my boss and told her thanks, but I was just going to lay low tonight.  And she was totally cool with it.  Mission #1 accomplished.

Did I go to the gym like I said I wanted to?  You betcha!  I got back to my room and didn’t even give myself time to change my mind.  I changed into my workout clothes and was back out the door within 2 minutes.  Mission #2 accomplished.

And I literally squealed out loud when I walked into the gym today.  The gym at this hotel has always been hideous, it had mish mash of equipment from the 80s and was the size of a closet.  Not anymore!  Well, it’s still the size of a closet, but it’s been totally redone – new floors, new paint and new equipment!!!  Like, really nice equipment with the built in TVs and all that.  There are 2 treadmills and 1 elliptical and a whole set of free weights – and it was all mine!  I was the only one in there the whole time, so it was just happy hour for me!!

I did 10 minutes on the elliptical and 20 on the treadmill and then I did a quickie arm routine that looked like this:

Exercise WeightReps Sets
Bicep Curl w/Twist10 lbs103
Front Shoulder Raises10 lbs103
Lateral Raises10 lbs103
Bench Dips10 lbs103

Short but sweet.  Nothing too strenuous because I was on the tired side.  Plus, I just can’t go all out when I work out in the evening.  I am much more of a morning worker outer.  But I am SOOOOO glad I did it.  It was my first workout of the week, which, um, why?  Why do I skip days?  I just don’t get it.  Working out makes me feel 100% better, so I always wonder why I skip a workout in favor of sleep.  I know some days you need to sleep in, but I always know that a workout will wake me up and make me feel better all day.  Sorry, I’m just babbling right now.

Anyway, I’m going to jet and see how smart I am by watching Jeopardy.  Have a wonderful evening!

Hello From Lovely Weather-ville

Hey y’all.  I made it to Connecticut and I am really enjoying the weather here – sunny and low 80s.  It’s almost like winter for me!

Today has been a looooong day.  I got up at 5:30 so that we could leave for the airport by 7:00 for my 9:00 flight.  Got here at 11:30 and then went to the office.  My goal was to leave the office by 4:00 and check into the hotel and go to the gym or go for a walk around town.  Well, that didn’t happen.  Instead I was at the office until 6:00 (gah!) and by then I was tired and hungry and decided to just go to Panera, eat dinner and then check into the hotel (and not go to the gym).  So that’s been my day.

The hotel I always stay in never ceases to amaze me.  Every single room I have stayed in here (and I’ve been staying here for 3 years now, so I’ve seen a bunch of rooms) is DIFFERENT.  The room layout and set up is different in every single room.  I walked my room this time around and it was so different from my last room (the one I spend a full 7 days in last month - long enough to call it my "home" ).  So strange, but a nice change everytime I come.  Another nice change - they finally entered the new millienium, and got flat screen TVs in their rooms.  Last month they still had antique box TVs.  :)

The rest of the night I plan on getting into my snuggies, watching Wheel of Fortune, unpacking and watching White Collar at 9:00.  That’s about all I have energy for.  Tomorrow I am planning on gyming after work.  Hold me to that please.  Send me comments saying “GO TO THE GYM KERRY!”  That will prompt me to do it.  I swear!

Have a fabulous evening!

Questions for you …
- What’s the weather like where you are?
At home in Orlando its 160 degrees and muggy.  Here in Connecticut it’s gloriously in the low 80s.  Upper 60s in the evening.  SO NICE!
- Did you work out today?
I didn’t yesterday (lazy) and I didn’t today (early flight).  So tomorrow I MUST!

Fun Weekend

Hey hey!  Happy weekend!  It’s actually almost over, if you can believe that.  Sad.

I had a wonderful weekend!!  Here’s what went down...

Saturday morning I woke up early to go take another 2 mile walk.  I got dressed, went outside, and it was raining!  It was sort of sunny though, and not raining very hard, so I decided to be badass and workout in the rain.  In Florida, that’s always a welcome thing - rain, not being badass.  Anyway, so off I went in the rain.  About half a mile in my iPod died.  That’s when I decided that the rain coupled with no music equalled the absolute need for a shorter walking workout.  So I dropped it down to 1 mile and then went home and did an arm workout and some lunges.  Works for me!

After the workout, and a shower, I made my way west to the Tampa area to meet my mom, my BFF from high school and her mom for a girl’s shopping trip!!  We had a blast!  We did lunch, we shopped, we bought, it was a great great afternoon.  After that we had a big dinner at my parents house (my dad made delicious bolognese sauce, I am going to get the recipe and recreate at home, fo sho) and then we spent the next several hours just chatting away.  It was a great day and night!

Sunday, we just hung out all day and I made my way home around 5:00.  Great weekend all around!  And now I have to prepare for work tomorrow and then traveling on Tuesday.  Yeah, back to Connecticut.  Another workshop.  We’re almost done.  One more month.  I can do it!

Alright, I need to jet.  I hope you had a fabulous weekend!  Talk to you tomorrow!

Questions for you …
- What did you do this weekend?
- Did you work out today?

Chicken Lasagna

Hey there!  I just built my chicken lasagna for this evening and it’s currently in the oven making the house smell amazingly cheesy.  While it does it’s thang in the oven, I thought I would share the recipe...

Chicken Lasagna

Ingredients:
4-6 boneless skinless chicken thighs (or 4 breasts)
9 lasagna noodles (or you can use a box of ziti)
2 cans of cream of chicken soup
1  cup of chicken broth
¼ tsp oregano
¼ tsp pepper
8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
8 oz shredded mozzarella

Directions:
1)  Cook the chicken in the crock pot the day before or the day you want to build the lasagna.  Shred it.  You could also boil the chicken for 45 minutes if you don’t have a crock pot.
2)  Cook the ziti noodles (if using ziti).  If using lasagna noodles, you can use the no boil kind.  Lasagna noodles scare me so I opt for ziti.
3)  Mix the chicken broth and the 2 cans of cream of chicken in a pot and heat through for about 5 minutes.  Add pepper and oregano.
4)  BUILD.  Put some sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 pan and then layer noodles, chicken, sauce, cheese, two or three times.  The last layer should be all cheese.  The cheesier the better.
5)  Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

ENJOY!!!!

Weekend's Almost Here!

Hello and happy Friday!!!!  The work day is almost over, so I am a super happy camper knowing that the weekend is almost here!

Today started off great.  I, again, was too lazy to get up early and go to the gym, so instead I opted to catch a few extra zzz’s and then went for an outdoor walk/run.  I’m SO glad I did that.  Much better than the gym.  Although I must say it was HOT out this morning.  Within minutes I was already soaked due to the humidity.  Ugh.  It’s like walking through pea soup, but I do enjoy being outdoors in the early morning hours.  I did 2 miles, mostly walking, but I threw a few running intervals in there to get my heart rate up a bit.  It was a good workout!

The day has been a good and tonight we have fun plans with J to eat chicken lasagna (her fave) and then go to Friendly’s for ice cream.  Yep, I said Friendly’s.  For like sundaes and good ice cream like that.  Yum.  Nothing like starting off the weekend on a feeding frenzy!  And I’ll be sure to share the recipe for chicken lasagna with you later on this weekend, because it’s ridiculously fabulous.

OK, I have a bunch of stuff to get to and not a lot of time to do it.  Sorry so short, I will post more later on.  Have a fabulous Friday!!!

I'm Back

Hiiiiii!!!!

Sorry it’s been a couple of days.  I’ve had to entertain (and train) a group of 20 people from various parts of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, which left very little time for chatting about fun stuff during the day.  And then by night I was so whooped that the thought of turning on my computer just made me more tired.  But I’m back.  Aren’t you glad?

The last couple of days I have done nothing exercise-y.  Unless you count running around the building making sure everything was “just so” for my class.  But I don’t count that.  So this morning I had grand plans to get up and get movin’.  But then the alarm clock went off at 5:15 and I said “hell no.”  Then around 6:00 I woke up and started having a mental tug of war with myself.  My lazy self was saying “No, stay in bed, this is the first day you’re able to sleep in” and then I heard Jillian Michaels yelling at me saying “Get up!  You haven’t exercised since Monday!  Get up!”  So I got up.

Since it was too late to go to the gym, and it was Jillian’s voice I was hearing, I decided to make it a Jillian day and do Killer Buns and Thighs.  I’m going to admit, I was totally not feeling it.  I did parts of Jillian’s workout and then during the parts that I felt like skipping I did arm exercises.  (because I prefer arms to legs any day of the week)  All in all, I am SO glad I got up and did something.  (even if it wasn’t THAT much)  It felt good to sweat.  Tomorrow: GYM.

So today is Thursday, and I remembered that it was Morning Drive Playlist Thursday – which is kind of a stupid thing, but whatever, it’s fun.  So here’s what I heard today…

1)  Velvet by Fergie – I love me some Fergie and I secretly wish she would put out another solo CD, because this one was the bomb.com
2)  More Than That by The Backstreet Boys – Yes, I like the Backstreet Boys.  Remember this?  This song however, not a fave.
3)  Kiwi by Maroon 5 – Good song.  Good band.  Nice Adam Levine.
4)  I’ve Just Begun Having My Fun by Britney – I love Britney.  Nuff said.
5)  City Love by John Mayer – This is from the BEST John Mayer CD ever – Room For Squares, his first CD.  This is before he blew up and dated Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston.  Before he got a huge head a started saying stupid stuff to magazines.  This is when he was a real artist unaffected by fame.  OK, I’m done with my rant on the downfall of John Mayer.  Anyone agree with me?

And that’s it from me today.  Next Thursday there will be no Playlist Thursday because I will be in Hartford and my drive to work from the hotel is literally 45 seconds – not enough time from a playlist.  So I will resume the following week!

Alright, I have a mountain of work to do today, since I haven’t been able to do my other work in two full days.  Eek!  Busy day ahead.  Although, before I go do work, I MUST go check on Hungry Runner Girl to see how the baby is coming along!  The last I read she was PUSHING!!!!  AAH!  I am so excited.  I feel like one of my friends is about to give birth!!  Have a great day!!!

Questions for you …
- What have you been up to this week?
- What was your workout today?

It's Monday! FMM Time

OK, truthfully, who was giddy last night watching the Spice Girls on the Olympic Closing Ceremonies?  Me!  I now have "Wannabe" stuck in my head.  I might have to pull out my Spice Girls CD.

Sorry about that little confession ... Happy Monday!  How are you?  Hopefully Monday is treating you good.

I am good.  I got up, did some gym this morning, so I've got endorphins flowing and am in a fabulous mood.  It's amazing what exercise on a Monday morning can do for you.  I'm a little bit bummed because tomorrow and Wednesday I have to be at work at the crack of dawn (more training workshops), which means no morning workout, which ultimately means bad mood Kerry.  Eh, not really bad mood, because I'm rarely in a bad mood, but just not my usual self.  I'll live, I'm sure.  Maybe I'll actually try a workout in the evening?

Today I did a quick cardio workout and then some arms.  I did 10 minutes on the bike, 15 on the elliptical and 15 on the treadmill and then this arm routine:

It's Monday and you know what that means ...

Today's FMM topic is about one of my most favorite things to do - GROCERY SHOP!!!

FMM:  Groceries

1. How often do you cook at home? I try to cook at home every weeknight and then I leave the weekend up to chance.  But there's always at least one pizza night during the week, so I would say I cook 4 days a week.

2. Do you eat more fresh produce, frozen or canned produce? I eat fresh produce (fruit mainly) like it's my job.  For instance, today alone (and mind you it's only 1:20) I've had a plum, an apple, a nectarine and a gaggle of grapes.  I love love love fruit.  It's the best snack there is.  As for veggies, I don't eat many of them, but when I do I usually go fresh.  I used to be all about canned green beans until I made fresh ones.  Canned green beans taste SO odd.  Not at all like real green beans.  Anyone else with me on that?  I also like canned corn.

3. What are a few unusual staples that can always be found in your kitchen?  Hmm... I'm not sure.  I do have an unusually large Costco bag of ground flax seed in my pantry (that I never use).

4. Look in your fridge, then tell us about the healthiest thing in there.  Fresh fruit and milk.

5. Now share the most unhealthy thing in it.  Cookie dough.  Mmm.

6. Do you eat leftovers? Leftovers of food I made, oh yes.  I like to make a big amount of food and then save it for lunch the next day and possibly dinner later in the week.  However, restaurant leftovers, no.  I always get a doggie bag and 99% of the time I throw it away.  Unless it's pizza.

7. Do you use coupons at the supermarket?  I wish I used them more but I don't get a newspaper, so I rarely have coupons to use. (I know I could scour the internet for coupons, but I just don't)

8. How often do you try new recipes? I haven’t tried a new one in a while, but I actually got my recipe book out  yesterday and found a couple of recipes that I might sneak in this week.

9. Do you make grocery lists?  Do you stick to them? YES and YES.  I cannot and will not go to the grocery store without a list.  I'm a ridiculous list maker, so I rarely go anywhere without one.  And yeah, I am pretty good at sticking to it.

10. If you could buy one food item that would magically be calorie-free, which item would you choose? Cookies.

And that's all I've got for today!!  Let me know your answers to some of these questions!  Have a great Monday!!

An Hour of Power

Hello and happy Saturday!

This morning I deemed “cardio Saturday” and decided to go to the gym instead of doing an outdoor workout.  I did this purely based on the fact that, a) I hadn’t been to the gym since Monday, and b) I really wanted to read my book, which I also haven’t touched since Monday.  So my goal was to spend at least an hour doing cardio and nothing but cardio.  An hour of power, if you will.

I did 10 minutes on the bike to warm up, 15 minutes on the elliptical and then 40 minutes on the treadmill walking - all while reading my book (“Heart of the Matter” by Emily Giffin, if you were wondering).  It was great!  The gym was ridiculously packed this morning.  I usually like adhering to the “one treadmill space between me and the next person” rule, where you’re not on a treadmill directly next to someone, but that wasn’t happening today.  Oh well.  I got 2.25 miles done in 40 minutes.  Not terrible.  There were no running intervals thrown in there, FYI.  I will save that for my outdoor workout later this week.

All in all, good morning.  After that, I putzed around, paid some bills, made Hubs and I breakfast, talked to my parents, went to the grocery store and got that finished and then Hubs and I watched Batman Begins.  We desperately want to see the new Batman movie this weekend, but not before we watch all of them first.  And when I saw all of them, I mean ALL of the Batman movies ever made.  We’re talking Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney and Christian Bale.  Last weekend we did all the old movies, now we’re on to Christian.  Sheesh.

It’s been thundering here for about 2 hours now and still not a drop of rain.  I hate that.  I am going to go do a rain dance.  Have a great rest of your Saturday!!!

Curses

Hey hey!  Happy FRIDAY!  I cannot believe another week is already done.  This just makes me really happy for a multitude of reasons!

So, I have some new hair!  Woo!!!  I shared with you the before picture, now here’s the after…

Here's the before again in case you missed it...

OK, OK, I know it does not look any different in the picture, but trust me, it is sooooo much better.  It’s lighter, brighter, the layers are freshened up and she fixed my bangs which were kind of funktified before.   I am SO happy.  I did not want to get rid of the length, so we just shortened up everything else – layers, bangs – and now I feel refreshed!  YAY!  It’s amazing how much better new hair will make you feel.

Anywho…  This morning I woke up too late to go to the gym, so I decided to keep my workout at home and instead do another round of Jillian!  I did the 40 minutes of Killer Buns and Thighs and then did a quickie arm workout that looks like this…

All in all, great workout.  I am so glad that I got my butt out of bed and did something.  Because I kept thinking “it’s Fridaaaay, I don’t wanna get up” while the alarm was going off.  I’m glad I didn’t succumb to that again (like yesterday).

My co-worker brought in Krispy Kreme donuts this morning.  Curses.  I’ve had two already, and there’s still like a dozen left.  I’m sure the day will end with a stomach ache.  Which is why when everyone said they were going to Five Guys for lunch I politely declined.  I gotta draw the line somewhere.  Curses.

Alright, I have a mountain of stuff to do and not much time to do it in.  Have a fab Friday!!!
