Total Tangent Thursday

I’m just going to babble about random stuff today…

We did not win the Powerball last night.  Boo.  Hubs and I bought a ticket and then we had a pool here at work for tickets as well.  I was really hoping that all of those tickets would produce some kind of winnings, but alas no.  I think on all of the tickets we had, we had about 3 numbers (and not on the same ticket).  Oh well.  I actually hate the lottery, it’s a colossal waste of money, however, whenever the jackpot gets above $100 mil we will play.  Anyway…

Last night I had a dream that I ran a 5K and WON.  But my winning time was 31 minutes (way faster than I ever run a 5K), so I must have been in a race with a bunch of really slow people.  I’m not knocking slow runners at all.  My last 5K I ran in 40 minutes, so I am super slow, but the 31 minute thing had me all excited in my dream.  Maybe this is foreshadowing for my triumphant return to running after the baby.  Maybe I will be blessed with a little more speed.  Or maybe not.  I’ve had a lot of running dreams though since I’ve been pregnant and sidelined, so I think it means I miss it a lot.

Woohoo!  Running!

This morning I had to be at work at 8am.  I hate 8am meetings, because most mornings I don’t get to work until 9:00(ish).  And the meeting this morning lasted only 13 minutes and was about a project that we’re not even doing until May, after I get back from maternity leave.  Umm, I have about 6,000 things that are due before I go on maternity leave in 3 weeks (OMG, 3 weeks!!!), so talking about something that’s happening is May is just not a smart use of my time right now.  Especially at 8:00am.  Just sayin’.

Was anyone else really glad that Melissa Rycroft won Dancing With the Stars?  I didn’t watch it, and I rarely watch DWTS, but I do love Melissa.  She was on two of my fave reality shows – The Bachelor and Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: Making the Team.  Yes, I have watched all 7 seasons of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader show and I am not afraid to admit it.  I just find it fascinating that those girls can do that crazy jump slip thing so easily.  Anyway, Melissa was on that show in one of the earlier season (maybe season 1 or 2) and then she popped up on The Bachelor and I was like “she looks familiar.”  She’s on another reality show now about her married life, but I don’t watch it because I never know when it’s on.  But I really like her and I was glad that she won.  Especially because Shawn Johnson and Kelly Monaco already won once.  OK, I am talking way too much about a show I didn’t even watch…

She just had a baby like a year ago.  I can only aspire to abs like that post-baby.

Last night Hubs and I watched the tail end of A Charlie Brown Christmas (we DVR’ed it so we can watch it later).  Can someone tell me why the networks are showing all of the awesome Christmas specials now, in November?  Why don’t they wait until mid-December when all of the shows go off the air and it’s closer to Christmas?  Duh.

I’m getting my hair “did” tonight.  I’m in desperate need of color.  My friend asked me at my baby shower “did you darken your hair?”  Um no, I just have roots.  She said it looked nice, but that told me that I needed to get an appointment for highlights stat.  I was going to try and wait it out until mid-December, since that’s closer to baby time and I know I won’t be getting my hair done anytime soon after the baby is here, but I just can’t wait any longer.  I’m not going to take before and after pics because the last time I did that it didn’t look any different – in pictures.  In real life it looked fabulously glossy with no roots.

Speaking of fabulously glossy hair, did anyone notice that Princess Kate got bangs?  I don’t like them.  And I’m a pro-bangs person.  What do you think?

She doesn't look happy about them either.
OK, this post is now out of control so I am going to go get some work done.  Have a wonderful Thursday!!!

Holiday Health Calendar

Good morning!  It’s Wednesday and the week is just flying by too fast for my liking.  There is so much to do and so little time to do it, I feel.  Gotta love the holiday season, right?

This morning I got up and got moving again.  Yay!  I did not get to the gym (boo!), but I did get outside for a walk around the neighborhood.  I did 1 mile because, a) that was all the time I had; and b) my calf/shin were BURNING (seriously, I’m over this so much).  Hey, 1 mile is better than 0 miles, right?  After that I did a series of stretching and then my PT exercises.  I also did my PT exercises on my right foot (the one with the burning calf/shin), in hopes that the stretching would help my problem.  We’ll see if it works.

I got to work this morning and saw an article on our intranet that was titled, “Tis this Season to Gain Weight.”  I had to chuckle at this, because yes, I will gain weight this holiday season. About a pound a week, according to my doc, which is totally OK, so I am going to eat lots of Christmas cookies.  No, but seriously, the article talked about how Americans, on average gain between 1-5 lbs between Thanksgiving and New Years.  The article then went on to talk about the ways you could stave off that extra weight gain, and then directed us to a fun little “Holiday Health Advent Calendar” which gives you an activity or healthy thing to do each day between Thanksgiving and New Years.

Isn’t this neat?  And they’re fairly easy things like “drink eight 8 oz glasses or water today” or “take a pre- and post-dinner walk,” stuff like that.  Closer to the holidays they get a little tougher like “climb 10+ flights of stairs today” (YIKES!) and “no junk food today” (yeah that’s a tough one on December 23rd!).  I love this and thought it would be a great thing to try and adhere to during the month of December, because you know I like a challenge!  Some of the items on here I can’t do (ie, jump rope for 10 minutes – don’t think my giant baby belly would like that too much), but I will do what I can do and sub in stuff for the things I can’t.  Something fun!  I will have to type up a calendar of my own and I will share it with you when I am done.  Deal?  Deal!

And on that note, I am going to jet.  Hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday!  Talk to you later!

Questions for you …
- Did you workout today?
- Do you tend to over indulge during the holidays?

The Need To Move

Happy Tuesday to ya!  Hopefully all is well where you are.

All is well here.  It was another day I didn’t get out of bed to go to the gym, but that’s OK, I got up and did something by way of prenatal yoga and some arm exercises (I’ve been neglecting my arms).  It felt good to move, which means maybe tomorrow I will actually get up and go to the gym.

I’ve been so lazy since Thanksgiving, I need to snap out of it.  Although, the bigger I get, the less I want to get up and get moving (that’s what 8 months of pregnancy will do to you).  But I do know how important moving is.  I didn’t get up from my desk yesterday for like a 4 hour span and when I got up everything hurt and I just felt so BLEH.  So I will persevere and move again  I promise.

So this is the last week of Monica’s Pile on the Miles Challenge.  I kind of putzed out on my goal of 40 miles for the month of November.  I’ve done 24 miles so far, think I can do the remaining 16 by this Friday?  Yeah, me either.  Oh well, that is OK.  But I have enjoyed having this little challenge in the back of my brain.  I might have to set a goal for December (a much lower goal considering I will be entering my ninth month of pregnancy in the month of December – AAH!).  I’ll let that simmer and talk about it in my December Goals post next week.

I decorated my cubicle for Christmas this morning.

((GRRR, my photo problems are happening again!!!!  Really Blogger, really???))
** Picture of lovely cubicle with festive garland ** (I'll post it when I get this figured out!)
Festive right?  I wish I could have garland up at my desk all the time, it makes me happy.  We decorated the house for Christmas this past weekend and it looks awesome.  Zeus approves.

** Cute picture of Zeus under the Christmas tree ** (I will figure this out tonight and upload)

We put less up this year because we have to get all of the Christmas décor down ASAP after Christmas since the baby is due in the first half of January.  God forbid she come home to a house still decorated for Christmas!

Alright, this is super short and boring – sorry – so I am going to close out now by saying, have a wonderful Tuesday!!

Questions for you …
- Have you decorated your house for Christmas yet?
- Do you have specific workout goals during the holiday season to keep things at bay?
I am usually preparing for the January Disney Half Marathon during the holidays (remember this festive run on Christmas Eve eve?) so I usually do.  This year, I plan on focusing on ENJOYING the food.  Because after the baby comes I’m sewing my lips shut.  J

The Plan For This Week

Hello everyone!  Happy Cyber Monday to you!  Is anyone planning on doing some shopping today?  I plan on perusing a little bit this afternoon, but I’m not looking for anything in particular, like last year!

Hopefully everyone’s Thanksgiving break was wonderful!  I spent a glorious 3 days after Turkey Day doing a whole lot of nothing.  It was great!  By nothing I mean no workouts of any kind happened after Thursday.  It’s been a nice little break.  I was supposed to break that (bad) habit this morning by going to the gym, but it didn’t happen.  I woke up at 3:45 this morning and could not go back to sleep until just before my alarm went off at 5:30 (yeah, that’s always fun).  So of course, I dozed off at like 5:20 and when the alarm went off at 5:30 I was like “hell no” and set it for 6:30 figuring I could get up and get some yoga in.  No, that didn’t happen either.  Oh well.  Tomorrow is another day to get movin’.  In fact, here’s my plan for the remainder of the week…

Monday – Sleep in
Tuesday – 20/20 workout
Wednesday – 15/40 workout
Thursday – Rest (I have an 8am meeting at work, so no morning workout for me)
Friday – 2 miles on the treadmill
Saturday – Outside walk?
Sunday – Rest

Let’s see if I can make that happen.  I’m a little apprehensive about my walks since my calf/shin are still acting up.  Grr.

Alright, so I'm not sure what happened over the weekend, but I got the picture thing on the blog back up and running.  Though today I can't seem to access my pictures from Thanksgiving.  Grr!  Anyway, here is one of me in my sassy, glitzy top on Thanksgiving.  32 weeks!!!

32 weeks - yikes!
Alright, lots to do so I must get going.  Have a wonderful Monday!!!

Questions for you ...
- How was your Thanksgiving?
- What are your shopping plans for today?  Any?
- What are your workout goals for this week?

The Day After

Hello!  Happy Black Friday!  (as if it's a holiday or something)

As you can tell I am not out and about today looking for bargains.  I actually am not a fan of shopping on Black Friday because of the mass quantities of people and the fact that I have no idea what I want to buy for people (or me) right now.  I should plan better if I plan to go out Black Friday shopping, but really, I'm content just hanging out at home right now.

I'm blogging to you from my new toy ...

((OK apparently I have no more storage on my Blogger account for photos.  That's just great.  They now want me to pay for more storage for photos on the blog  That's not happening.  Therefore this blog may have to be picture-less until I can find out a solution to this.  Dad, any help you can give would be great - you are the Picasa guru.  Anyone else have any ideas?  I'm perturbed by this.))

I have officially made the jump from PC to Mac.  And I didn't even know I was doing it!  Yesterday after Thanksgiving dinner my family decided to give me a HUGE surprise - a way too generous gift of a MacBook Pro for my birthday/Christmas.  I did not see that coming!!!  I have been saying that I need a new laptop a lot lately (since mine is 5+ years old and starting to show it's age), but I was not expecting this at all.  I have been spending the morning trying to figure out what the heck I am doing.  Seriously, Mac is SO different from PC.  It's a little frustrating trying to figure everything out, but I am getting there.  So exciting!

Anyway, how was your Thanksgiving??  I hope it was as wonderful as mine.  Yesterday was just fantastic all around.  We had such a great time at my parents house - wonderful meal, wonderful company, lots of fun, I couldn't have asked for more.

((Seriously Blogger and Picasa I am so angry right now I could spit.  But I'm not spitting anywhere near my new computer, so you're lucky.))

The day started off on the right foot.  I did a 1 mile walk around the neighborhood.  Yeah, I know I said I was going to do my own Turkey Trot 5K at the gym, but I was not feeling the gym yesterday.  I was more about fresh air, so I set off to do a 2 miler around the neighborhood.  Then attack of the fiery calf happened, which has now started to extent into my shin (seriously, WTF?) and was so fiery and painful that I had to call it quits after one mile.  I'm perturbed at this new phantom pain.  I am not sure why this is happening or how to fix it.  It only happens when I am walking at a good clip for exercise (ie, not when I'm walking around in normal everyday life).  I did some of my PT exercises on that foot trying to strengthen it, we'll see if that works.  Grr.

Anyway, after my miler I did prenatal yoga, then my PT exercises and then some arm exercises.  It was a good little workout, even if it wasn't a 5K.  After that I baked some cookies to bring to my parent's house, got ready and Hubs and I were out the door by 11:45 to pick up my in-laws so that we could all drive to Clearwater together.

Like I said, the day was wonderful.  The food was off the charts delish, the company was amazing, we talked, laughed, played a mean game of Mexican Train dominoes, which literally lasted HOURS and just had a great time together.  I'm so thankful for my family.  I love the fact that my parents and my in-laws are such good friends and that we spend all of our holidays together.  I don't think I could do two Thanksgivings - one with one set of parents and one with the other - each year, so Hubs and I are very lucky that we make it a big family thing together for all of our holidays!!  YAY!

This morning was lazy.  I actually stayed in bed until 10am this morning.  Not sleeping of course, because I can't seem to sleep past 7 anymore, but just watching TV, reading (finished my book!) and lounging.  It was glorious!  Plus it was ridiculously cold in our house (it got down to the 40s last night, brr), so staying under the covers was mandatory.  After I finally got up, Hubs decided to go brave a Best Buy and a Walmart, and I happily stayed behind to play with my new toy.

And that's all that's going on over here.  I'm going to go play more and see what I can figure out with this new computer/way of life thing.  Anyone know anything about iCloud?  I feel like such a dummy!  Hope you're having a fabulous day!!

Questions for you ...

- Mac or PC?
I have been a proud PCer forever and swore I would never make the jump (even though I love my iPhone and iPods).  Now here I am!  Once you go Mac, you never go back, apparently!  :)
- How was your Thanksgiving?
- Have you worked out in the last two days?

The Day Before

Happy Day Before Thanksgiving!  Today is such a tease.  My dad just sent me a text that said “Tasting the stuffing.  Mmmmm!”  Tease.  One of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving at my parents’ house was building the stuffing because it involved a lot of tasting to get it just right.  Apparently him and my mom are doing that today.  I’m really missing out. But tomorrow I will get to taste the finished product!

I have off of work today (yay!) so I slept in a little (til 7, woohoo) and then made my way to the gym.  My gym is a completely different gym in the 8 o’clock hour.  I’m always there in the 6 o’clock hour and there are maybe 10 people there.  At 8 there are lots of different people there.

Today’s workout was going to be a 15/40 workout (elliptical/treadmill).  Whenever I do elliptical and treadmill I always, always do the elliptical first.  Today I decided to start on the treadmill.  My treadmill workout was great.  I did 2 miles of walking in 40 minutes while reading (and almost finishing) my latest book.  Afterwards though, I totally wasn’t feeling the elliptical so I went home and did prenatal yoga instead.  This was a good call because I was a feeling a little stiff from sleeping 9 hours and walking on the treadmill with a fiery calf (yes that is still happening, ugh, over it!).  Anyway, great workout overall.

For the rest of the afternoon I have no plans to leave the house which makes me happy.  I love hanging out at home.  Especially on a nice weather day where I can open up the doors and let the fresh air in.  This evening I am meeting up with my mom-in-law for pedicures – my birthday gift – and then we are meeting up with Hubs and my dad-in-law and going to dinner.  Our destination has me all kinds of excited.  Red Robin (yummm).  We just got one in Orlando and I am super excited to eat burgers and bottomless French fries as I have seen often on this girl’s blog.  Let the feeding frenzy begin!

Alright, I am going to jet and get some things done.  Hope you’re having a wonderful day before Thanksgiving!

Questions for you …
- Do you have a particular order you do your cardio workouts in?
For me it’s usually bike, elliptical, treadmill, in that order.
- Have you ever been to Red Robin?
I have not.  Can’t wait!

Helloooo!  It’s my FRIDAY today!  Woohoo!

Today, much like yesterday, has been so jam packed that I don’t even currently know what my name is.  In fact, tomorrow’s vacation day might be spent doing just a little bit of work (but not a full day).  It’s amazing how busy you become when you finally come to the realization that you are leaving your job for three MONTHS in about 4 weeks.  I’m going a little bit nutso.

To keep me somewhat sane, I worked out today.  YAY!  I didn’t do this yesterday and I was crazed all day (except during our Dr. Pepper Taste Test).  Today, I am a little less crazed (but still crazy).  I did a 15/20 workout and it felt good to move again.  I hadn’t worked out since last Friday, so it was nice to be back in the gym with my Nook and some machinery.  Here’s my plan for the rest of the week (gotta counter balance the mass quantities of stuffing I am planning on eating):

Monday – Rest
Tuesday – 15/20 workout (1 mile)
Wednesday – 15/40 workout (2 miles)
Thursday – Turkey Trot 5K (3.1 miles)
Friday – Rest
Saturday – 2 miles outside/prenatal yoga
Sunday – Rest

No, I didn’t sign up for a Turkey Trot, but I’m going to do my own on Thanksgiving morning at the gym.  3.1 miles, and I might even dress up like a turkey.  Just kidding.  I gotta get my POTM miles in, I’m behind on my goal.  Eek!!  And I just have to say I have not picked up a weight in about 2 weeks now, so I will be integrating some of that in as well, because that’s just shenanigans in my book.

Speaking of shenanigans, I fell asleep last night around 9:00 (I’m the life of the party).  I dreamt about work for what seemed like the ENTIRE night.  I woke up from my long dream to shift the body pillow and I looked at the clock – it was only 12:00.  Really??  Why do the nights go by SO SLOWLY when you are pregnant?  Did this happen to anyone else?  I swear each night feels like 2 nights, which is a good thing and I feel pretty well rested, but still, it’s weird to me.  This never happened before.  Normally I go to sleep and wake up when the alarm goes off.  Now I wake up every hour or so and the night just drags on.  I am sure I will look back at this when I am sleep starved with a crying baby and wish it back, but for right now it’s just weird.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got to say for today.  I gotta go and do about 2300 more things before I leave here (in a hour – aah!).  Hope you’re having a terrific Tuesday!!

Questions for you …
- Did you have strange sleep habits when/if you were pregnant?
- What are your work out goals this week?
- Anyone running a Turkey Trot?

Dr. Pepper Taste Test & FMM

AAH!!!  It’s so busy today I haven’t even stopped once.  But I’m giving myself 20 minutes to work on something frivolous and fun (blogging) so my head doesn’t explode.  As if I don’t have enough work to do before I go out on maternity leave before the holidays, my boss is also asking me to put together my “plan” of who to take over my duties while I am gone.  Um, I don’t even know how I am going to get to December 21st (my last day), let alone know what needs to be done Janaury through April!  Head.  Exploding.

Anyway… I had a fabulous weekend.  There was no working out whatsoever and I don’t feel bad about it.  I went to my BF from high school’s daughter’s 3rd birthday party this weekend and had a great great time.  We consider each other’s family our family, so it was great to get together and see everyone and just have a good time.  Also this weekend I wrote about 40 thank you notes from my baby shower (my hand still hurts), Hubs and I organized all of the gifts in the baby’s room (by “organized” I mean we threw stuff in drawers, in the closet and on bookshelves – we will really organize later on) and we watched two good movies.  One was silly – Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler.  I normally hate Adam Sandler movies, but this one was cute.  And the other one was pretty bad ass.  We watched Drive with Ryan Gosling.  Truth be told I didn’t really want to watch it.  Our Roku decided to fritz out and it was the only movie on our Netflix streaming list we could get to work, so we went with it.  It was REALLY good!  It started good and then got a little boring and then Ryan Gosling turned badass and made the movie GREAT.  The not so great thing, the soundtrack.  The music in the movie was HORRENDOUS.  Weird music that did not fit the movie whatsoever.  It was so very strange.  Unfortunately Hubs and I are still humming the terrible songs from the movie (they were bad, but they were catchy).  Anyway, overall, great movie, go see it.

OK, so my frivolous fun work break went from 20 minutes to like 45 because we are dorks here at work and decided to do a Dr. Pepper taste test.  We’ve been talking about this for about a week now.  Someone in our area got a Diet Dr. Pepper and doesn’t do diet soda, so we got into a whole conversation about how Diet Dr. Pepper doesn’t really taste like Dr. Pepper.  And then we got to talking about all of the different Dr. Pepper wannabes, like Mr. Pibb and Dr. Thunder (Walmart’s version) and we thought it would be fun to do a taste test of all the Dr. Pepper-like sodas.  So we just did it!

We got super duper technical.

The choices were Dr. Pepper, Diet Dr. Pepper, Mr. Pibb (I refuse to call it Pibb XTRA), Dr. Thunder and Dr. Publix (grocery store brand).

I am happy to tell you that I got all of them wrong!!  I am apparently really bad at this.  I drink Dr. P on a daily basis (thanks pregnancy, grr) and I couldn’t even tell the Dr. Pepper.  The best tasting one that I noted was the Diet.  What is going on?!?  Clearly my taste buds are off. It was fun though.  And today is our co-worker Jen’s last day in the office (she’s moving to Connecticut, so I will have someone to play with when I go up there 20 times a year) so we had to do something fun.  And what’s more fun than a Dr. Pepper taste test?  Not much.

OK, let’s switch gears to this week’s FMM topic – a favorite topic of mine, THANKSGIVING!!!!!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

 FMM:  Thanksgiving Edition

1. Do you have any Thanksgiving traditions?  No specific traditions, but we always get our families together so it’s always me and Hubs, my parents and his parents, and then whoever else, but the six of us are always together.  This year we are going to my parent’s house in Clearwater for the big day.  Ohh, tradition is my mom’s stuffing.  We ALWAYS have my mom’s stuffing, whether she is cooking or not.  Because it’s the best stuffing in the world.

2. List at least three dishes that are on your family’s table every year. Turkey (duh), Mom’s stuffing and mashed potatoes.  This is all I really care about.  Anything else it just extra.

3. Do you prefer pumpkin pie or pecan pie?  Neither.  I’m not a pie person.  I’ll eat pie if it’s the only dessert (maybe), but I’m much more of a cake girl.

4. Will you watch football on Thanksgiving Day? It’ll probably be on in the background, but I don’t watch football.

5. Do you plan to exercise Thursday?  Yes I do!  There will definitely be a walk in my morning plans.  When I was in high school and college we would do the Turkey Trot in Clearwater, which was always a lot of fun.  That’s where I did my first 10K about 100 years ago.  I think Orlando has a Turkey Trot, but I didn’t sign up.  Sad.

6. Do you prefer ham or turkey?  I like both, but you have to have turkey on Thanksgiving.

7. Will you shop on Black Friday?  We don’t do the whole “stand in line in the middle of the night” Black Friday Shopping, but we do hit some of the stores in the middle of the day.  We don’t get great deals, but it’s fun to be out and about on Black Friday.  Is anyone else completely perturbed about Black Friday beginning at some stores on Thursday at 8:00pm?  Way to ruin Thanksgiving!!!  Ugh, commerce!

8. Do you take a nap on Thanksgiving? I don’t think so.  I do get really really tired on the drive home though.

9. Share one dish that probably won’t be on anyone else’s table.  Hmm, I have no idea.  We usually stick to the staples.

10. What are you thankful for today?  I’m so thankful that I will have my family with me on Thanksgiving.  And on Thursday we will be toasting our little girl’s 32nd week of life (in the womb).

That's it for me!  Talk to you tomorrow!

Questions for you ...
- Have you seen Drive?
- What did you do this weekend?
- What do you think about Black Friday starting Thursday night?

20/20 Friday

Happppy Friiiiiday!!!!

This week has flown by.  In some respects.  Yesterday afternoon seemed to drag on forever, but I am still trying to figure out how it already became Friday.  Is it me, or is time flying by super fast?  I mean, next week is Thanksgiving already!  AAH!!  That’s scary.  But exciting at the same time because I LOVE Thanksgiving.  Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes.  YUM.  I’m so looking forward to that.

Anyway… Last night I was in bed and sound asleep by 9:00.  I'm lame.  I don’t know what happened.  I was wide awake on the couch, and then Hubs and I went into our room to watch The Office and I completely conked out before it even started.  It was so weird.  That said, I had a fabulous night’s sleep, even though I woke up once per hour to reposition the body pillow (and my giant belly).  Literally, once per hour.  I woke up at 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3 and 5.  Not sure what happened at 4, I guess I was really comfy.

I got up at 5:45 and made my way to the gym to do a 20/20 workout.  20 minutes on the elliptical and 20 on the treadmill.  It was good stuff.  I had my fiery calf pain again today.  Ugh.  What is that about?  I’m really kind of over that.  I’ve been stretching it a lot but it still gets crampy and sore.  I’m sure it’ll go away one of these days.  Hopefully.  We’ll see how my walk goes tomorrow.  Tomorrow’s plan is 2 miles outside.

This weekend we have all kinds of things to do including a 3 year old’s birthday party in Tampa, a trip to Costco, writing a million thank you notes and figuring out how to put together all of the fun baby stuff we got last weekend.  Exciting!  We might even throw a trip to Disney in the mix too.  J just got a job out there and she starts this weekend, so we’ve all got Disney on the brain.  Exciting stuff I know.

Alright, I have a billion things to get to here at work, so I am outta here.  Hope you’re having a fab Friday thus far!

Questions for you …
- What time do you normally go to bed?
I used to be able to stay up past 10 or 11 every night.  Now that I’m prego I can’t seem to stay awake past 9-ish!
- What are your plans for the weekend?

Fiery Calf

Hello!  It’s Thursday, my least favorite day of the week.  It’s not yet Friday and that bums me out.  Oh well.

Today started off with a good 3 mile walk on the treadmill while reading my book.  I’m not quite sure what I did before reading my Nook at the gym.  I was probably bored to death trying to figure out what the people on TV were saying.  I could have never gotten through 3 miles without some sort of reading material, that’s for sure.  Anywho, my 3 miles felt great, but I have noticed a fiery pain in my right calf the last couple of walks I’ve been on.  And by fiery I mean it feels like my entire calf is on FIRE.  It burns.  Is that a pregnancy thing?

I’ve never had that kind cramp or pain since my running days.  I noticed it last week and figured I just didn’t drink enough water the day before or something like that.  But then yesterday, after I had plenty of water the day before, I felt it again and it kind of extended into my shin – geez I hope it’s not shin splints.  I’ve never ever had shin splints all through running, so I don’t think it’s that considering I’m not running and I’m not really strenuously walking either.  That’s why I think it’s maybe a pregnancy thing?  I dunno.  Anyway, it happened again today and burned so much that I had to stop after a mile and rub it and stretch it.  Weird.  And I stretched out this morning before I started walking too.  Hmm…  If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears!

I got on the scale when I got back from the gym.  That was a huge mistake.  But I was curious because every time I get on the treadmill I have to enter my weight and I wanted to see if I was anywhere in the ballpark (I’ve been entering my weight from my last doctor’s appointment).  Yeah, it was a little different.  Sheesh.  I need to just not do that from now until the end of my pregnancy.  The scale + an almost 8 month pregnant chick are not friends.  Whatever, I’m going to ENJOY the next 2 months (she’s due 2 MONTHS FROM SATURDAY – OMG!) and figure out how I’m going to get it off later.  Hey, at least I’m still working out.  If I weren’t, ooh wee, I’m not sure where I’d be right now!

OK, enough about that….

I was just reading Stephanie’s blog and she got me all kinds of excited about Disney half marathons.  It’s weird how excited you get about things that you’re not going to be able to participate in.  Apparently not being able to run really makes you miss it and want to do it.  She’s running the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February and posted the brand new medal on her blog.  I’m sad about this.  I’ve run every Princess Half since they started it in 2009 and now this year they have a special 5th anniversary medal that I’m going to miss out on.  That’s OK, I’ll be back for the 6th annual.

OK, I have a million and one things to do so I should shake a leg and get going.  Hope you’re having a great Thursday!

Hello Monsieur

Hey there!  Sorry it’s taken me all day long to write, it’s been a busy day!

So last night I finally made Croque Monsieur.

With a side of sweet potato fries.  Yes, on a Minnie plate.
Yes, I did.

As I mentioned earlier this week, I was watching Food Network last Friday and the Barefoot Contessa made it and immediately my mouth started watering and I had to have the recipe.  Any sandwich that involves that much cheese is a must try in my book!  Here is the recipe I used (thanks Ina!) but I’ll give you the Cliff’s Notes version now.

First, I made the béchamel sauce.  It sounds fancy, but it’s not.  It’s butter, melted in a saucepan, (see recipe for measurements, I only made one sandwich so my measurements were waaaay different that the recipe) add some flour and stir.  Then stir in some milk (recipe says warm milk, mine was cold and it worked just as well).  Stir til the mixture is thick and creamy.  Remove from heat and add salt and pepper and the cheese – the best part.  I did parmesan and Gruyere.  Stir until everything is melty and delicious.  Set aside.

While you’re whisking the béchamel you should have turned on the oven to 400 degrees and lightly toasted the bread slices.  About 3 minutes on each side.  Once the bread is done toasting, spread a little mustard on the bread.  Not too much, that shouldn’t be the main flavor, the cheese is really the star.  Then pile on some ham (I used Boar’s Head Low Sodium Ham, because it’s the best ham around) and some Gruyere cheese.  Top it with the other piece of bread to make a sandwich.

Now the fun part… On top of the sandwich, spoon on the béchamel sauce.  Yeah, that’s right, spread cheesy sauce on top of the sandwich.  Oh yeah.  And then top that with more Gruyere cheese.  Double oh yeah.  Then put it in the oven at 400 for 5 minutes to bake and get all melty.  After 5 minutes, turn on the broiler and broil that puppy for 5 more minutes to make the cheesy bubbly and brown.  OMG.

Any sandwich that has that much cheese involved - and Gruyere cheese at that! - is a winner in my book!  It was delicious!!! Gruyere cheese is amazing.  I’m not sure why I don’t use it in other things because it was just a delightful treat.  I will definitely be making this again.

After my cheese induced coma all night, I got up and decided that I wasn’t feeling the gym, so instead I took a walk around the neighborhood (1 mile) and then came home and did my prenatal yoga.  Good call!  It was a great workout.  Tomorrow I will do the 3 miler at the gym.

And that’s about it.  Not too much else going on over here, except mounds of work.  I hope you’re having a fab day!

Sleeping Like a Baby

Good morning!  How are you on this Tuesday?  Hopefully good!

I slept for over 8 hours last night, which is so amazing in my book.  I’m not sure what it is, but pregnancy has given me the wonderful gift of being able to fall asleep at the drop of a hat anytime after 8:30pm.  I might wake up 150 times during the night to reposition my body and my giant body pillow, but I always seem to fall back asleep and sleep pretty well.  I’m savoring this as much as possible because I know pretty soon it’s not going to be like that AT ALL.

Anyway, after my glorious night of rest, I woke up refreshed and ready for a visit to the gym.  I’ve been wearing the same three tops to the gym every week – my C9 by Champion Seamless Camis - which are empire waisted and have plenty of room for my giant belly.  However, I noticed today that these tops are getting a little short the bigger my belly gets.  Argh!  The last thing I want to spend money at this point on is a new “maternity” workout top but I might have to bite the bullet and do it soon.  I wonder if they even make those?  I am sure they do, and I am sure they cost a mint!  Ugh.

Anyway … sorry to digress … I did a 20/20 workout today which included 20 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes of walking on the treadmill.  It felt GOOD.  I wanted to do some arms and my PT exercises when I got back home, but I didn’t have time, so I will tackle that tonight after I get home.  And after I make some Croque Monsieur for dinner!!  (going to the grocery store today after work for the ingredients!!)  Here’s the workout plan for the rest of this week …

Monday – Sleep in
Tuesday – 20/20 workout
Wednesday – 3 miles on treadmill
Thursday – 1 mile outside + prenatal yoga
Friday – 20/20 workout
Saturday – 2 miles outside + prenatal yoga
Sunday – Rest

Let’s see if I can keep the momentum going this week!!

Hope you’re having a terrific Tuesday so far!  I’m off to do some WORK!

Fun Sunday & FMM

My fun filled weekend caught up with me this morning because I did not want to get out of bed.  And didn’t.  Until 7:15.  So no workout to speak of today.  Instead I will speak of the rest of my fantabulous weekend.

So Saturday was the best baby shower ever and then Sunday Hubs and I decided to do more fun stuff so we slept in and then went to see a before noon showing (only $5!) of Skyfall, the new James Bond movie.  I can now say I have seen two great movies in the course of a week (Argo, now this).  I’m not a huge Bond fan, but Hubs is (we have the ENTIRE James Bond collection on DVD) so I was down.  It was really really good.  However, there was a woman sitting behind us who did not shut up the entire movie.  She was carrying on a conversation with the person next to her for the ENTIRE MOVIE.  They rarely stopped talking once.  It was so annoying I wanted to stand up and throw my popcorn at her (but that would be a waste of good popcorn).  Seriously, if you wanted to chit chat, go to Starbucks and chat or stay home, don’t go to a movie.  I just do not get how some people cannot stay quiet for 2 hours during a movie.  It’s not hard.  UGH!  Pet peeve.  But the movie was great!

Anywho, after the movie we decided to partake in the very last day of Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival.  We’ve only been like 900 times over the last month and a half, so clearly we could not miss the last day.  And we blew it out, we ate everything that looked remotely good because we knew it had to tide us over until next year’s festival.  It was a great great day, the weather was nice, we caught a little bit of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (remember them?) and we just had a nice day.  I also saw a bunch of runners wearing their medals from the Wine and Dine Half Marathon which happened on Saturday night.  It made me sad that I wasn’t a part of it, but I’ll be back, so no worries.

All in all it was a great Sunday to round out a great weekend and great few days off of work.

And now it’s Monday and back to the grind.  Ugh.  Whenever I take some time off of work I always wonder if it was worth all of the turmoil that first day back to work brings.  Today hasn’t been that bad, but a lot of stuff transpired while I was out, so I’ve been playing catch up all day on that.  Fun times.  Speaking of fun times, let’s do some FMM…

This week’s topic involves food, which is one of my favorite things on earth…

TOPIC:  What’s in Your Fridge?

1. List a few common items that can always be found in your fridge.  Eggs, milk, apples, American cheese, the staples.

2. What kind of milk do you drink? I buy Skim.  I’ve been drinking it so long when I drink anything other than Skim I feel like I am drinking heavy cream.  Ugh.

3. Do you prefer fresh or frozen vegetables?  I don’t really prefer any vegetables (yeah, I know), but when I do make veggies, they are the fresh variety.  I also like canned green beans and corn.

4. What do you currently have to drink in the fridge? Water, milk, Mott’s apple juice, Dr. Pepper (pregnancy craving)

5. How often do you clean out your refrigerator? Every week I take inventory to determine what’s bad and what’s good.  I hate a cluttered fridge and I really hate finding green cheese or something moldy in the fridge (yeech!), hence the weekly inventory.

6. What’s the healthiest thing in it right now?  I have a Costco sized amount of apples and pears in there right now.

7. What’s the most unhealthy thing in it right now? Leftover baby shower cake.  Mmmm.
  8. What do you wish you had in it that you don’t have now? Over the weekend I watched an old episode of Barefoot Contessa on Food Network and she made Croque Monsieur sandwiches, so right now I am really craving that, so I am wishing I had some ham and Gruyere cheese in my fridge so I could make that tonight!  Mmmmmm.

9. How often do you shop for groceries? I go shopping every weekend for groceries.  It’s my most favorite type of shopping.  I LOVE GROCERY SHOPPING.  But I have to do it alone.  Hubs always wants to rush through the list.  I like to peruse all of the aisles and read labels and just take my time.  It’s therapeutic.

10. What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge right now? A two liter of Coke Zero.  Neither of us drink it.  I bought it for my dad because he was over this weekend but he ended up not drinking it, so we’re saving it for next time he is here.

Bonus:  If you could choose one thing to put in the fridge and make it calorie-free what would it be?  That leftover baby shower cake.  Or the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookie dough in there.  Mmm…

Hope everyone's day is going great!
