Lazy Weekend

Well hi there!  It’s Monday again, how did that happen?  I went the entire weekend without a posting and it wasn’t because I was so busy that I couldn’t get near my computer.  No, it was because I was so LAZY I didn’t feel like getting near my computer.  Weekends like that are kind of awesome, right?

Friday I spent the day with my mom and we did about 800 loads of laundry - baby clothes, baby linens, baby towels, you name it, we did 800 loads of baby laundry.  It was so fun!!  It’s amazing how tiny some of these clothes are!!  

We also got the nursery in order and I am happy to say that it is ready for a baby!!  And in just a mere two and a half weeks (or sooner!) a baby will be here!  AAAH!!!!!!

Saturday I had dinner with my gal pals to hear about my friend Amanda’s trip to Las Vegas over Christmas and then came home and spent the rest of the day on the couch.  Hubs attacked a Red Box while I was at lunch and got the movies The Campaign, The Watch and Man on a Ledge.  All were good!  I really didn’t have high hopes for comedies (The Campaign or The Watch), but they were surprisingly funny, entertaining and not awful.  Man on a Ledge was fantastic.  

Sunday Hubs and I ran a couple of errands and then settled in for what we deemed Karate Kid day.  No, I’m not kidding, sadly.  We have streaming Netflix and noticed that the Karate Kid movies (the originals, not the lame remake with Will Smith’s kid) were on there, but only until 1/1/2013, so we had to watch them pronto.  I forgot how entertaining those movies were.  I just love the second one set in Okinawa.  Anyone else?  No?  Just me?  Anyway...  

For dinner we met up with my in laws for dinner at Kobe (Japanese hibachi, yum yum yum).  We had a coupon from Hubs’ birthday (free meal in your birthday month - free is for me!).  The wait for a chef table was way too long so we just did the sit down version of the hibachi meal, which worked out so much better - smaller portion sizes, which is a very good thing.  Usually we walk out of there eating a week’s worth of food, last night we walked out comfortably full (good at this stage in  my pregnancy since there’s not much room in my tummy for food anymore).  They even celebrated Hubs’ birthday, again (it was the 18th) with a hat and a cupcake!

This morning it was back to Monday and normal Monday stuff.  Hubs went to work and I went to the gym.  A little over 2 weeks prior to my due date and I’m still ellipticizing, woohoo!  I did 30 minutes and got out of there.  I’m sure the people at my gym are like “um, you’re going to pop one of these days” - yes, yes I might.  

Today’s plans include going through a ton of emails that I have neglected over the weeks (I have emails in my box from Baby Center saying “you’re 25 weeks pregnant, here’s what to expect” - don’t need those anymore!).  My plans these days are to stick pretty close to home, because you never know when something might happen - you know like my water breaking.  OMG!  

Tonight’s plans for New Year’s Eve … every year Hubs and I get really brave and we go out to Disney for the holiday.  Along with the 1.1 million other people in town, we hit up the parks.  I really really would like to do that again this year, however, with my giant belly, large crowds and impending due date we have decided to stay home instead.  So I will be making a yummy New Year’s Eve dinner and we’ll likely be on the couch watching the ball drop.  Woohoo!!  

Today is always the day I am thinking ahead to my New Year’s Resolutions, however, this year I don’t want to make any because I don’t know what life has in store for me in 2013.  I know life is going to be TOTALLY DIFFERENT once our daughter is here, so to make New Year’s Resolutions saying “I’m going to run x number of half marathons” seems foolish, because who knows!  My resolutions have always been “ME ME ME” based, and next year’s resolutions may not be so “ME ME ME.”  Give me a month or so to get used to life with baby, then I will make some plans!  I’ll keep ya posted!  But tomorrow I do plan to go through my 2012 Resolutions to see how I did on those …  It could be ugly.

Weird Things

Good morning!  It's a COLD morning here in O-Town - it's in the 40s.  Brrr...  

I have a fun day planned today (washing baby clothes and organizing the baby room with my mom!) and started it off right with a 30 minute elliptical workout at the gym.  If you've noticed I've been staying away from the treadmill lately.  Two reasons: 1) my gym just got new treadmills and I'm not sure if I like them yet; 2) I feel safer on the elliptical at this point in my life.  I'm big and clumsy right now, and I found myself tripping a lot on the treadmill.  Tripping on a treadmill at 37 weeks pregnant is not something I want to do, so I'm just going to stick to the elliptical for the remainder of my pregnancy.  Better safe than sorry! 

Anyway, the workout was great and I followed it up with some light arm exercises at home.  I've been neglecting my arms big time and I'm starting to notice, which makes me sad.  However, with my weird carpal tunnel wrist thing going on, it kind of hurts to lift weights.  Oh, what to do?  I am hoping this carpal tunnel thing goes away pronto after the baby gets here.  

So I did my little Christmas recap yesterday and I failed to mention a couple of things.  Some weird things that happened to me over Christmas...


(OK, I had a photo of the delish salad I had the other day, but it apparently hasn't uploaded to the Cloud yet, so I can't get it off of my phone.  I still have no idea how to work my new Mac.  But I got Macbook for Dummies for Christmas, so I will be learning soon!)

You all know I don't like salad. I don't like lettuce (its too leafy tasting!) but I'll eat it on occasion, just not too often. In the days leading up to Christmas I craved salad, I wanted to eat it a lot, so I did. Salad with French dressing, salad with Italian dressing, Olive Garden salad... I'm sure it's the pregnancy talking, but the cravings are still there and hopefully here to stay! (God willing)


(Same issue as above, I have a picture of the 3-layer chocolate cake my mom made, but it's in limbo right now.  Grr.)

I hate chocolate. I have hated chocolate since I was 12. Can't eat it, think its gross, I call it a true blessing. But my mom brought over a homemade chocolate cake (my great grandma's recipe) with homemade chocolate frosting for dessert on Christmas Eve and as she was frosting the cake, I caught a whiff of the frosting. It smelled heavenly. I decided to take a taste of the frosting, and I ended up licking the bowl clean! Who am I???? This baffled EVERYONE. I had a small piece of cake for dessert, heavenly. I'm really hoping that this craving goes away quickly!!  So far it's limited to just this cake, I haven't ventured into other things chocolate, so as long as my mom does not make this cake again anytime soon, I think I will be OK.

Yeah, I know, I'm weird.

Christmas Festivities Recap


Sorry it’s been a couple of days since I checked in with you.  The Christmas festivities around here were spectacular, and then yesterday I was a big ol’ lazy lima bean and just didn’t do much of anything, which was heavenly.  

Today I got back to being active by waking up early, going to the gym and pounding out 40 minutes on the elliptical.  I felt GOOD.  I haven’t sweat since Monday (outside of normal 37th week pregnancy sweating, haha) and it felt really good today to MOVE. The rest of today is going to be productive as well, no sitting around the house all day again.  There will be plenty of that once the baby is here, so for now I need to DO stuff!  Right?  Right.

So, as I mentioned, our Christmas was just wonderful.  I had my parents in town, and on Christmas Eve we did a big dinner at our house, which turned out GREAT!  Here’s some highlights....

After dinner and present opening we headed over to Hubs’ uncle’s Christmas party where we got to mingle with family, and more importantly Hubs and I got to mingle with his cousin’s 2 month old twins.  OMG!!!  If I wasn’t excited already about the baby coming in 3 weeks time, I got REALLY REALLY excited when I saw these two cuties. His cousin was like "want one?" and we each took a twin and played.  Not that there’s much playing at 2 months old, they really just layed there in our arms looking cute, but that was enough for us.  It was surreal thinking that in just a couple of weeks we’d have a baby like that.  CRAZY!  It was so fun though.  

After the party, we headed out to church for Christmas Eve service at 10pm.  Beautiful.  And then it was home to rest and relax.

On Christmas Day we had a leisurely morning and then headed over to my in-laws around 11:00 for Christmas brunch to celebrate the holiday and Hubs’ grandma’s birthday.  Hubs and I both have grandmas who have Christmas Day birthdays - isn’t that crazy?  Other similarities (and reasons I think we were made for each other) - both our mom’s have November birthdays, both our dad’s have May birthdays, we’re both only children, both our parents are still together and both of our mom’s have the middle name Diane.  Spooky right?  I’m telling you MFEO - made for each other.  Anyway...

Christmas Day brunch was fabulous.  I overloaded on quiche and hashbrown casserole, fruit and croissants.  Everything was SO delicious!

Christmas Eve - Normal Day

It’s Christmas Eve!  Why doesn’t it feel like it?  For some reason, Christmas seems to totally have snuck up on us, hasn’t it?  

I know it’ll feel more like Christmas Eve once my parents hit town and the cooking begins, but until then it’s just been a normal Monday.  Woke up early (7:00), Hubs got up and got his day started (he’s working a half day, bah humbug), I got up and went to the gym.  Totally normal day.  

I am feeling better today, hallelujah!  I’m still snotty, but I think everything is starting to, er, drain.  I still had some trouble sleeping, but at least I didn’t have to sleep upright again.  Though I do feel 100% better when I am standing than when I am sitting or lying down.  If only I could master a way to sleep standing up... But thankfully I think my holiday cold is passing.  Woohoo!
Shar, I hope you are feeling better.  Flying across the country with a sinus infection does not sound like a good time.  We’ll miss you guys this Christmas in Chicago!!  Tell everyone I said HI and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Merry Christmas Eve Eve!  

This weekend has been a productive one.  I made it to the gym again yesterday for 30 minutes on the elliptical.  At this point in my pregnancy 30 minutes is my limit.  God forbid I go into labor on an elliptical machine, so I cut it short.  In, out, done.  Shopping is done.  Wrapping is done.  Food shopping is done for Christmas Eve dinner.  It’s all done!  

However, a little wrench was thrown into my weekend and holiday plans.  I’m sick. Booo! I KNEW I shouldn’t have put in writing that I hadn’t been sick since 2010!  I knew it.  I’m not one who believes in jinxing myself, but that is just what I did.  I had my froggy, phlegmy thing going on the other day, and that progressed into a full on assault of snotty nose and sinus congestion.  Ugh.  I am blaming a couple of people at work for this.  They came to work sick a couple of days and I kept silently cursing them because I was afraid I was going to catch their germs.  And I did.  Thankyouverymuch.  OH, and the weather might have something to do with it too.  It went from high of 82 on Thursday to a high of 55 on Friday. What’s up weather?

Last night I couldn’t lay down because my nose and sinuses hurt so bad.  I would fall asleep and then 20 minutes later my nose would burn (kind of like when you get water up your nose) and I’d have to sit up.  I finally resorted to sitting upright on the couch all night, dozing for 20 minute intervals.  Oy.  I slept about 3 hours last night, but surprisingly I feel pretty awake today.  Anyway, enough about sicky sickerson over here.

I am super duper excited about the next couple of days.  My parents are coming up tomorrow and we’re all congregating over at our house for Christmas Eve dinner.  I’m cooking a ham - never done that before. Then it’s off to the 8:30 or 10:00pm church service.  Our church puts on the best Christmas Eve show in town.  Christmas Day we’re going over to my parents-in-law’s house for brunch and fun Christmas shenanigans.  It should be a wonderful holiday!  I can’t wait to get things underway!  

Alright, there’s things to do, and I tend to feel better when I am up and about, rather than sitting and wallowing in snot, so I’m going to go do something productive upright.  Have a wonderful Christmas Eve Eve!

Shopping Day

Hey guess what? The world didn't end today! Woohoo! I didn't think it would, but with all of the talk about it I started to think "OMG what if the world ends before I get to meet my baby?" I would be so pissed. Thankfully I think we're in the clear.

My first day of vacation started like a normal day of work, just later. Instead of the alarm going off at 5:30 it went off at 6:30 for Hubs. Once he got up, I was awake so I watched some news and then headed to the gym.

Today I did a 15/20. I wasn't feeling awesome this morning. I had a slight headache and a phlegmy throat, which I'm sure is allergy related, but I was determined to prove that a workout would make me feel better. And it did! Once I got going the congestion in my face seemed to go away as did my headache. Fabulous! I still have a froggy voice but I feel fine.

Today's mission is Christmas shopping. I have some done but there is a lot yet to do. I don't think I have ever been this behind before on the 21st! Usually I'm all done by now. This year I have a valid excuse though - pregnancy brain. I can't think of what get people! Hubs and I are going together to divide and conquer.

Anyway, that's in the cards for today as is a mani/pedi!! I bought a Groupon for a $25 mani/pedi and it expires soon so I'm going to get me some pretty red nails for Christmas! Fun!

OK I need to get showered so our day can begin. It's frigid out today - high of 59 (don't laugh). I'm excited to pull out a sweater that I bought on Black Friday and haven't been able to wear, since its been in the 80s since then ! Sheesh, it was 82 yesterday. Our weather is weird. But I am so glad it will be cold for shopping today. It's much more Christmasy that way.

This Is It

This is it y’all!  My work is done, my desk is cleaned out (for the most part), I am ready to depart.  Why am I so sad?  I’m going on maternity leave 3 months.  That’s 3 whole months of no working, no office, no projects, no traveling, no waking up early, I should be jumping for joy.  And I’m sure I will when everything sinks in, but right now it just feels… WEIRD!  I’m sad because I love my job.  Not many people get to say that, but I truly truly do love what I do.  I love the people, the challenge, the fun, the creativity, my job is just such a great fit for me.  And to leave it behind for a long period of time just feels weird and a little sad.  But I know I have a new job coming my way – BEING A MOM.  And that is going to be an even more fulfilling and amazing job.  

I was so happy to get your comments on my last post.  After I published it I was worried that you would be like “shut up Kerry about your workouts, we don’t want to hear it *rolls eyes*”, but I was so happy to hear that you guys felt the same way.  And Carrie, I am so excited and touched that you used me as inspiration and are now gyming it pregnant-style!  Woohoo!  I’m serious y’all, it makes you feel SO good!  You might not realize it when the alarm goes off at 5:30am or after a long day at work, or during your workout, but afterwards you feel all of the good benefits of a workout.  I promise!  OK I’ll shut up now.

And I hate to say it, but I did not practice what I preach this morning (the SHAME).  This morning was weird.  I had a doctor’s appointment at 10, so that meant I either had to hang out at home until 9:30 and then leave for my appointment and then not get to work until after 11, meaning no working until 11, which scared the bejeezus out of me because I had so much to do going into today.  Or, I could have gotten up and into the office early, gotten an hour or two of work in and then gone to my appointment.  I opted for option 2.  It worked out great because by the time I went to my appointment, many of the to do’s on my To Do List were done!  I’m smart like that.

My doctor’s appointment went great.  I learned I ONLY gained 2 lbs in the span of 9 days (rolls eyes).  Go me!  I was really thinking, based on the rate of my weight gain over the months, and the sheer amount of Christmas cookies I have eaten in the last 9 days, that that number would have been higher, but I was so glad to know it wasn’t.  Baby is great, in the right position, ready to make her way into the world.  So very exciting!  4 weeks left.  Here’s my obligatory 36 week photo…

The Benefits of Exercise

Hello!  Happy Hump Day.  It’s officially less than one week away from Christmas – are you ready?

Hubs and I had a fabulous day yesterday celebrating his birthday!

We went over to Tampa to the Hard Rock Casino for the afternoon.  You know Hubs is a big fan of Hard Rock CafĂ© and likes to collect those little guitar pins, and we had never been to the one in Tampa, even though it’s only a hour from our house, so we decided to make a trip over there to eat, buy a pin, peruse and do whatever.  (that was a long sentence)  And that’s exactly what we did.  The food was good as always (though $40 for a burger and a cheesesteak - eek!), the atmosphere was cool (albeit smoky and stinky) and we had a fun time playing slot machines off of the five dollar bills we collectively had.  We played for a little while on that five bucks, but in the end lost it all.  We’re big spenders. 

After that we drove the hour home, and chilled out and watched a movie (The Dictator – his choice – it was no good) and then met up with his parents for dinner.  All in all great birthday! 

Today it was back to the grind for both of us.  I only have today and tomorrow left of work and I am FREAKING OUT.  I feel like there is so much to do before I walk out those doors tomorrow evening and don’t come back until, roughly, April 1st.  EEK!!  But I’m getting there.  

Edited to add:  I meant to publish this earlier today, but that didn't happen since work consumed me, so here I am now.  I am feeling much better after getting sh-- done on my To Do list today.  So hopefully tomorrow will be smooth sailing.  YAY!

I started this morning with a workout.  15/20, elliptical/treadmill, while reading my book, which is just OK so far.  Not fascinating, kind of slow, but I’ll keep reading.  I did a similar workout on Monday as well (forgot to mention that), but I did a 15/25.  Yesterday I took the morning off.  So I’m still keeping to my workout regimen, even at 36 weeks prego.  GO ME! 

I've been thinking a lot about how I am feeling and how lucky I have been during my pregnancy and honestly, I hate to sound like a weird workout guru or like a broken record, but I attribute how AMAZING I feel to working out.  (I know I used to hate people like me too who were all "woohoo the gym rules" - but I'm serious, yo).  Examples:

  • I haven't been sick since November 2010 - I attribute this to working out.  I am a firm believer in sweating out toxins.

  • I'm 36 weeks pregnant and not swollen - I attribute this to working out.  Again, I do believe sweating is awesome and helps keep swelling in check (this is not scientific, just what I think).   On days I don't work out in the morning, I can't get my rings on.  Mmm hmm.

  • I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I have ENERGY - I attribute this to working out.  Everyone and their mother has told me that the last few weeks of pregnancy your energy is so gone you can't function.  Not over here, endorphins endorphins endorphins!

  • I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I can sleep - I attribute this to working out.  Everyone tells me those last few weeks I should just plan on not sleeping because I am so uncomfortable.  I get up at 5:30 to go to the gym, so by the time 9pm rolls around, I'm ready for bed and can fall asleep with no problems. Though I am still uncomfortable because I'm huge and hate sleeping on my side.
  • I FEEL GOOD! - I attribute this to, yep, working out.  On days I don't go to the gym or do some form of activity, I do not feel good.  I'm achy, I feel yucky, it's just not good or happy. 
Now, I will say working out has not helped with my pregnancy weight gain.  I've been a pro at gaining weight and have actually gained a lot more than I thought or wanted, but I'm not too worried about that.  This will likely be the only time I am pregnant and I am enjoying every minute and every meal!  And just think, if I hadn't been working out this whole time I may have gained even more.  Yikes!

Wonderful Weekend

Hello!  It’s Monday.  And it’s the last Monday I am going to work for quite a long time.  Wow.  Doesn’t seem real just yet. 

Here is hoping you had a great weekend, despite the sadness that still hangs in the air from Friday’s tragedy.  I got to a point where I just couldn’t watch the news without crying, so I had to distance myself from the TV for most of the weekend. 

Our weekend was a very busy one, yet we barely left the house.  My parents came over on Saturday and we put some finishing touches on the nursery.  Pictures are forthcoming.  Seriously, it’s like a dream.  It’s absolutely beautiful and I cannot wait to bring the baby home to her new room.  It’s just so darn exciting!  4 more weeks!!!!

That night we went out to Celebration to see J sing.  She was emceeing the Christmas entertainment and then she did a set.  It was fun and festive, even though it was like 75 degrees out.  I still insisted on wearing long sleeves and scarf and nearly fainted from heat.  Not really, but it was a little aggravating listening to Christmas carols while sweating.  BTW, J killed Mariah’s “All I Want for Christmas” – I have heard her sing that for years, but this year was amazing!  Go her!  You can watch/listen here!   

J was opening up for Teddy Geiger whom most of you probably don’t know.  He was in a movie called The Rocker with Dwight Schrute from The Office and Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper and Christina Applegate.  That gives him celeb street cred, right?  Anyway, I freakin’ love that movie and ended up buying his CD after I saw the movie (the movie was about a high school garage band that makes it big) and the CD was really good.  Long story short, after J’s show she was like “do you want to come and meet Teddy?”  Um, yeah.  He’s like 12 (or 24), but I was kind of a giggly dork and took her up on it.  We got to the green room and he wasn’t in there, he was already backstage, so I didn’t get to meet him.  Oh well.  It’s probably better.  I’m sure J would have been totally embarrassed having her pregnant stepmom being dorky around a semi-celeb.  Plus, what does a 35 year old woman say to a 25 year old singer without sounding like a total schmo?  It’s really for the best.

Sunday we had a cookie baking party at our house.  It was me, my mom, my mom-in-law and Hubs’ grandma (my grandma-in-law?).  I cannot even describe the amount of cookies that we baked, I can only show you …

It was a FABULOUS day and I think we have started a Christmas tradition!!  By the end of the day I had been standing so much and had eaten so much sugar my ankles were swollen and all I wanted lay down for the remainder of the night.  And that’s exactly what I did.  I even ate SALAD for dinner to counteract all of the sugar.  I might not touch the cookies again until Christmas. (I said might)  But they were ALL DELICIOUS!!!! 

What a WONDERFUL weekend all around.  Between the baby stuff and the Christmas concert and the cookie baking, it was just a really really special weekend with my family. 

Alright, now it’s back to work.  I gotta get some stuff done.  I only have 3 workdays left.  AAAH!!!!!  Hope you’re having a great Monday!

Hug Someone

I have been buried at my desk all day and found out on a training call I was conducting about the tragedy in Connecticut (which I feel is my second home with the amount of time I am up there during the year). 

My heart breaks at the thoughts of children who had to suffer at the hands of a monster and of parents and loved ones who have lost someone, especially so close to the holidays.  I haven’t been able to read anything about the tragedy, our internet has been on the fritz all day because of the number of people streaming video, but I’m going home, turning on the news and hugging my loved ones. 

Aaaand, now I’m crying at my desk.  Apparently becoming a mom makes you think real differently about things like this.  I should have waited to post this when I was at home.  I’m a mess now.  Going home.

Early Christmas Present

It’s FRIDAY!  My last Friday in the office for a long long time.  Wow, that’s weird.

It actually dipped below 70 yesterday and last night.  Thank goodness because it was hot and muggy inside of our house yesterday morning (because we’re cheap and refuse to turn the air down in December).  Today it’s supposed to be 75 and this weekend it will be back in the 80s.  Ugh.  Merry December in Florida. 

Last night Hubs and I went to bed uber early – like 9 – and then we were wide awake at 4.  I hate that.  We turned on the TV and watched an old rerun of Knight Rider.  That will clear up your insomnia in about 5.5 minutes.  And then the alarm went off at 5:30 and I said “hell no” and reset it.  So no gym today.  I guess my gym streak will have to stand at 4 days again this week.  Oh well, I’ll go tomorrow.

Baby name still a mystery on the blog

An early Christmas present for myself!  Personalized stockings!  I have wanted to do customized, embroidered Christmas stockings forever now, and this year I finally had a reason to do it.  I know the baby won’t be here this Christmas, but I wanted to be ready for next Christmas, so I ordered these on a website called Personal Creations.  I paid an astronomical amount for them, even with a 20% discount, but whatever, they are beautiful and will last for many Christmases to come!  FUN!

And yeah, you like how I blocked out the baby’s name?  I gotta keep some things a secret around here!  J

We never put gifts inside stockings growing up.  But Hubs’ family does do this, so we’ve kind of adopted this tradition when exchanging gifts with his side of the family.  I actually LOVE getting my stocking from my in-laws each year.  There’s always fun stuff in there.

Busy over here.  My parents are coming up on Saturday to do more nursery stuff.  Going to see J sing in Celebration this weekend (she's opening for Teddy Geiger, remember him from that movie The Rocker?  I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!).  And then Sunday is a Christmas Cookie Bake-a-thon with my mom and mom-in-law!  Woohoo!

Gangnam Style Anyone?

Hi!  I’m so sorry I wasn’t chatty yesterday, it was a ridonkulously busy day.  I was on the phone all day except for two brief 30 minute periods.  I would sit on a call, have a bunch of “to do’s” after the call and then would have no time to do any of the “to do’s” because I had another call lined up.  It’s hard work preparing to be out on “vacation” for 3 months.  On my last call I think I heard a co-worker of mine silently weeping because he realized the amount of work that is now on his plate for the first quarter of next year.  Sorry dude.

With that said, I officially have 5 days of work left.  This is so CRAZY to me.  I’ve worked every day at the same place for the last 12 years, so it’s just going to be weird not having work as a focal point in my life.  So weird.  But, I am really thankful at how the timing lines up for me.  I get the week between Christmas and New Year’s on vacation and then I immediately start my maternity leave after that.  That’s 3+ weeks before the baby will be here, so that is like golden preparing and nesting time for me.  Wowee!  And the fact that I just typed it’s a mere “weeks” before the baby is here – I am officially 35 weeks today – that just made me do a tiny little happy dance.  This pregnancy thing FLEW by.  Nutso.

Today was day four in a row that I made it to the gym.  What what!  I’m doing a repeat of last week, and it feels so good.  I give myself a big pat on the back whenever I go to the gym at this point in my life, so I did that today.  Although with my hand and wrist carpal tunnel pain lately that’s a little harder to do now.  But pat on the back for me.  Today I did 35 minutes on the elliptical, no treadmill.  Thought I’d switch it up.  Yesterday I did a 15/20 workout and I’m happy to report that I have not had calf/shin pain in over a week.  I think this is because I’m also walking slower now, in addition to walking less miles.  Gotta keep that heart rate down.  (isn’t that weird to say when referencing working out?)  The more weight I gain (and I have gained a lot of weigh, number-wise, FYI), the higher my resting heart rate seems to go.  So for me to get to that magic 140 threshold (which is what my doctor told me to stay under when I work out) doesn’t require too much effort, so I have started walking and ellipticalling (it’s a word) slower.  Anyway…  Oh, and I also started the PB Fingers book club book for December at the gym yesterday.  So far it’s alright.  (Sarah, I was interested in your comments, I will definitely let you know what I think!)

Can we talk about Gangnam Style for a minute?  Apparently I have been living under a rock for the last few months.  I’ve heard about the phenomenon that is PSY, I’ve seen it parodied, but up until Tuesday of this week I had actually never heard the song (I don’t listen to the radio, it’s either iPod or talk radio in the car for me) or seen the video.  I noticed the song has been #1 on iTunes for months, and up until this week I had never actually listened to it or knew too much about.  So I finally You Tubed it (yes, that is a verb) and dude, I have been missing out!  That is a fun little ditty!  Forget the fact that most of the lyrics are in Korean, it’s still mighty catchy!  I have been missing out.  Although I did hear earlier this week that PSY made some very anti-American remarks in a song prior to him blowing up in the US, but he’s since apologized.  Hrmph.  But catchy, yes.  Anyone else have this on their workout playlist?  Aaand, now it’s stuck in my head.  Fantastic.  I love having a song that I can’t pronounce the lyrics to stuck in my head.

Carpal Tunnel

Hey hey hey!  How's it going over there?  Hope everyone is having a terrific Tuesday thus far.

My day started with no strange animal noises or anything funky like that.  I made it to the gym again today!!  (every day is a small victory at 8.5 months large)  I did another 15/25 workout on the elliptical and the treadmill and I finished my man book!  Yay!  Now I can move on to Julie's book club book of the month.  I've never participated before, so this will be fun.  Is anyone else reading the book club book of the month from PB Fingers?  

I realized I haven't checked in with my holiday health calendar lately.  It's probably because I have been failing miserably at my "to do's".  Let's go back to last Thursday.  Last Thursday's "to do" was to cook a healthy dinner.  Nah, didn't happen.  Hubs was out of town that night and I never actually cook real food on nights he's away, so that night I had leftover pizza from Wednesday.  Not healthy.  I did, however, cook a very healthy batch of "Mexi-cken" on Tuesday night.  Does that count?

Last Friday's "to do" was to climb 3 flights of stairs.  I didn't do that either.  I did climb stairs on Saturday though at the hospital during my class.  Does that count?  Saturday's goal was eat three healthy snacks.  I didn't snack because we were in that class all day.  But I did have two helpings of salad for lunch, so that should trump the healthy snacks.  Especially for me.  

Yesterday's "to do" was 45 minutes of cardio.  I wish I had looked at this calendar before I went to the gym.  Duh.  I did 40 minutes of cardio.  Bah!  Today's "to do" is to do yoga.  Geez, I really need to consult this calendar before making my workout plans.  I went to the gym instead today.  Maybe I'll move this yoga one to later in the week?  I know that's not the point of the calendar, but whatever.

Tomorrow's "to do" is arm work - 20 shoulder presses, 20 bicep curls and 20 tri dips.  I actually did this today.  Maybe I'll switch those around...  Oy.  I'm bad at this.

Speaking of arm exercises, yesterday I mentioned that I was having some pain in my hands, fingers and wrists that hindered me from doing a proper arm workout with heavier weights.  What's up with that?  I the last month or so, I have been having increased pain in my finger joints, and just in the last week, my right wrist hurts so bad when I move my thumb.  It is the weirdest thing!  

I, of course, Googled it and it's a pregnancy symptom!  Who knew?  Apparently in the third trimester you can experience carpal tunnel-like symptoms in your hands and wrists, which has to do with the swelling associated to the last month of pregnancy.  Interesting!  I'm not swollen anywhere else - ankles, feet - and my hands don't look swollen - I can still wear my rings - but my fingers hurt and my right wrist really hurts.  Isn't that crazy??  I was glad that there was a reason for my pain, but of all places to hurt in the last month of pregnancy, I hurt in my hands.  Hey, I guess I am doing pretty OK if that is the only thing bothering me at this point, right?  But still, weird.

Alright, enough of this.  I need to get going.  I have a doctor's appointment to get to - 34 week check up, woohoo!  Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Fun Sunday

Hello!  Happy Monday!  Or sad Monday, you pick.

I’m glad it’s Monday because it just gets me one day closer to being off of work for the holidays/maternity leave and gets us one day closer to Christmas.  Woohoo!  I’m not sure why I am woohooing, I haven’t done a lick of Christmas shopping yet. 

Yesterday I hosted our annual Girlie Christmas Gathering at our house.  It was a ton of fun and no, I didn’t take a single picture.  I lie, I did take some pictures of food (boring), but as soon as the gals got to my house I completely forgot about my camera.  Grr.  I hate that.  It was a great day though. We had such fun just hanging out, talking and eating.  Everyone brought a dish so we had a huge smorgasbord of things – artichoke dip, chicken enchiladas, baked brie, homemade mac n cheese, meatballs, Olive Garden salad (which I ate!) and breadsticks…we don’t mess around.  I made Texas Trash dip, which is SO delicious and also had other chips and dips and a fruit platter (gotta get some kind of healthy in there).  Everything was DELISH.

Once we gorged ourselves on food, we moved on to dessert!  Everyone brought a dessert to share, so we had cookies and cupcakes and cream puffs, oh my.  It was just so good.  I had a blast, but MAN, I was whooped afterwards.  I can’t remember the last time I was so whooped.  Seriously.  I think it was because I got up at 8 and was pretty much on my feet the entire morning and didn’t really sit down and breathe until after everyone left at 5:30.  Mental note, hosting a party at 8.5 months pregnant, not such a fantastic idea.  But it was still a blast!

This morning I was woken up at 4:30 by strange animal noises outside of our window.  Our house backs up to a forest preserve so Lord only knows what kind of creatures lurk back there, but I am certain that something was getting eaten or maimed or something outside our window because I kept hearing weird screeching.  I’m hoping it was just a sick bird or something, but I don’t know, and did not care to know or get involved.  And then of course I couldn’t go back to sleep because I was envisioning terrible things happening to this animal outside and I knew the alarm was going off at 5:30, so what was the point.  Pretty sure I’m going to be tired later.

I did get up at 5:45 and I went to the gym.  Even though I was whooped last night, I knew going to the gym today would make me feel better.  And it did.  I didn’t work out all weekend and I felt “meh.”  So today I did a 15/25 workout (elliptical/treadmill) while reading my book.  (One more trip to the gym and that puppy is done)  It felt good to sweat.   After that I came home and did some arms.  Nothing big, just a series of 30 bicep curls (various types), some shoulder presses and tricep kickbacks, with 5 pounders.  Enough to make me feel like I worked out my arms.  I didn’t want to do too much because I am having some issues with my hands and wrists, which I learned last night are pregnancy related.  I’ll get into that tomorrow. 

For now I have to jet.  Lots to do and little time to do it.  Hope you’re having a fantastic Monday!
