Can you even believe that it is 2013? It’s crazy how fast time is flying by. I hope everyone had a fabulous New Years. Our was great, very low key and relaxing, but great. I made a smorgasbord of food - our favorite sausage dip, nachos, chicken tenders, burritos, all healthy stuff - and we sat and watched three, yes three, movies from 6 until 11 (none of which were that good).
By the end of our movie watching, we were exhausted and decided that we would just go to bed instead of staying up to watch the ball drop. So we missed it. Boo!! First time in years we haven’t been up and celebrating at midnight. (we’re usually at a Disney park) Oh well, this year is very very different with me being a mere 17 days away from my due date. EEE!!!!
| I don't look hugely pregnant in big fluffy sweaters. But I am! |
So yesterday I talked about the fact that I wasn’t going to set New Year’s Resolutions this year, yet. Since I have no idea what life will have in store for me once the baby is here, I didn’t want to make my New Year’s Resolutions about me, me, me. So I thought I would wait a couple of months and then set some goals for myself. But that doesn’t mean I can’t check in with my 2012 Resolution to see how I did. This could be ugly. Here we go!
2012 Resolutions
(or To Do’s as I called them. And I was really snazzily organized with my bullets and sub-bullets, wasn’t I?)
- Keep up with the running
- Run more 5Ks (at least 5)
- Run three half marathons
- Travel for a race - a "race-cation"
Umm, no. If you’ve read the blog this year (THANK YOU) you know that I battled tendinitis in my ankle after my first half marathon in January, which left me sidelined for months. And then once I got back up on the horse, I discovered I was pregnant, which left me really sidelined since I had to keep my heart rate below 140 bpm (and when I run it goes beyond that). So, I only did two 5Ks this year (Universal Studios and Watermelon), two half marathons (Disney and DIsney Princess), and I didn’t get to travel for a race. But in 2013 I plan to make a triumphant return to running.
- Workout at least 5 days per week, if not more
- Go to the gym more - more cross training in 2012
- Workout while traveling on business!! (this is huge since I so rarely do this)
- Commit to a daily workout challenge and do this every day
- 30 squats/day
- 20 push ups/day
(I gave this a fancy name too - Daily Duo - yes, dork)
Yes!! I did really really good with my working out this year. I am so proud. You can check out my Weekly Workouts page to see that I’m telling the truth (though I did go a couple of months without entering stuff, oopsie, haha). I may not have done 5 workouts a week every week, but I did come close. And even during my pregnancy I kept up the momentum, which is awesomeness in and of itself. This year I also learned how to workout while traveling, which is something I never used to do. I always had good intentions of doing that - bringing my workout gear - and then never following through. This year I did that. I even went to my first Bikram Yoga class while in Connecticut! Daily Duo... well, that lasted only a couple of month, unfortunately. Who knew that doing 2 or 3 exercises daily would be so hard to keep up with! Maybe this year I will work on that. Squats with the baby in the Baby Bjorn! Sure, why not?
- Drink at least 2 liters of water per day, if not more
YES YES YES! Water was king in 2012 since I gave up Diet Coke in October 2011. I’m proud of this.
- No soda in 2012
OK, so if I didn’t get pregnant this year this would have been a slam dunk, because from January-June I had NO soda whatsoever. But then once I found out I was pregnant and couldn’t drink my beloved caffeine source, Spark, I realized I had to get in a little bit of caffeine somehow to be able to function. And since I decided to forego all artificial sweetners while pregnant, diet soda options were out and real sugary sodas made an entrance into my life. Seems a little weird, but that’s what I did. Dr. Pepper became my one pregnancy craving. I had an 8 ounce can per day (only 20 mg of caffeine) and somehow I was able to stay awake and functioning, proving that I really don’t NEED caffeine. Now of course I had more soda on certain days, which is such a nasty habit and I plan on breaking this as soon as the baby is out of my belly.
- Limit meals that come from a restaurant or a fast food window. If you must, make good choices.
Well, no. I still eat fast food, that's never going to change. Life without McDonalds or Chick Fil A just seems sad. But I feel like I did make some better choices this year.
- Eat more meals at home, including weekends (our weakness)
We did this! It was hit or miss, but I feel like we did eat a lot more at home than in years past. Weekends are always going to be busy and on the run so we'll always do the convenience meal while out and about, but what are ya gonna do?
- Try a new recipe every two weeks
I did try new recipes this year. Every two weeks, probably not. But I tried!
- Expand vegetable horizon
- Incorporate at least 2 new veggies into diet
- Take more chances with salad
I would like to say that I did make great strides in the vegetable kingdom this year. Salad has made it's way into my life and onto my plate - a dream come true!! Maybe not every day but I do actually eat it now, and I have pregnancy to thank for that. I am hoping this desire for lettuce continues on into 2013.
- Sunday set up day - plan meals and workouts for week every Sunday
Yep! Pretty much every Sunday I would sit down and plan out meals for the week. Workouts too!
- Do the 24 Day Challenge cleanse two times in 2012
I only did this once, in March. Then I went and got all pregnant so I couldn't do the cleanse again. In 2013 this too will make a comeback!!
- Tackle one home project every month (if not more)
Yes! We got a lot of house projects done this year!!
- Watch Netflix movies within one week of receiving them (to get our money's worth from Netflix)
We did not do this for a majority of the year. I blame Hubs for this. He put all his man movies (aka, movies I don't care about watching) at the top of the list so they just sat. Now that I'm on maternity leave our Netflix is going to get a workout!
- Get more organized at home (closets, kitchen) and at work (desk drawers, filing)
Yes! I am more organized than ever! It's called "nesting"!!
- Be smart about money
I am always smart about money. I'm not a big spender, I'm a bit freakish about saving, and the minute I found out I was pregnant I started saving for our daughter’s college. Yes I know that's freakish, but college is sooooo expensive and will be even more so in 2031 when our baby goes to college. I can't believe I just wrote that. 2031?!?!
And that’s it. Not a bad year! I am pretty proud of what I have done and hope that this coming year is even more successful. Hope you had a great New Year’s Day!
Questions for you …
- Did you meet your 2012 goals?
- What did you do for New Year’s Eve?
I couldn't imagine being IN a Disney park for NYE. We took my niece and nephew to Disney Quest yesterday. Downtown Disney was horrible all day, and Disney Quest got worse as the day went on.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your return to running in 2013. Maybe I'll see you at a Disney race!
