Post Baby Plans?

It’s Thursday!  Is anyone baffled by that?  What a weird week!

Today I am officially 38 weeks pregnant.   That means in a mere 14 days (or thereabouts)  I will have a baby.  Wow.  It’s still a little crazy to me.  My pregnancy FLEW by and I just think it’s so crazy that the time is almost here.  I cannot wait!

The obligatory 38 week photo

Another thing I can’t wait for - to lose that double chin.  Yikes!

I’ve been reading a lot about working out after pregnancy, and everything I have read says to wait 6 weeks before doing anything.  What?  6 weeks?  Really?  I can’t sit still for 6 weeks.

So I asked my doctor yesterday about it and he said “umm, no, I would NEVER recommend you to sit still for 6 weeks, especially if you have been working out your whole pregnancy.”  Phew, OK.  He told me that for very obvious reasons it might be a little while before I will want to workout, but he told me that I could start doing light exercise, like walking, the day after I give birth.  In fact, he said he recommends that.  I thought that was interesting.

Like I said, I am sure it will be a little while before I am going to feel up to it, but at the same time I am ready to get back in shape.  I hope that doesn’t make me sound vain...  I just really miss certain types of exercise that I haven’t been able to do for the last 9 months, ya know?  I’m weird...

And if anyone was wondering, yes, I downloaded the new Lauren Conrad book onto my Nook and started reading it this morning at the gym.  So far so good!!  Oh and speaking of the gym I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and a quickie arm workout.  Same ol’ thang, I tend to not stray too far outside of my comfort zone since I’m so close to d-day.  :)

And with that, I am out of here.  I’m meeting my dad for lunch today.  Should be fun!

Questions for you …
- When/if you had a baby, how long did you wait before starting a workout routine again?
- Did you workout today?

  1. I couldn't sit still, so I started taking walks the day after I got home. I was back in the gym doing the bike and elliptical at about 3 weeks and was back at pre-pregnancy weight by 6 weeks. I really enjoyed going for long walks with Lizzy and/or Daniel in the front carrier. I got to snuggle them close and more often than not, they fell asleep. When the baby was awake, I had them in the front carrier a lot, so that I could keep the house cleaned up, take walks, do almost anything; then I would sit and relax while they ate and then fell asleep. Good times. I kind of miss mine being that little. But they are 12 and 9 and still love to snuggle up to me.
Advice: You don't need to "eat for 2" when you are breastfeeding. Go back to a normal, healthy eating lifestyle and the baby will get all the nutrients it needs.

  2. I dont have a baby, but really want one! but since I have a half marathon coming up in February...i guess i will have to wait! But after my half, which was a goal, I would like to continue exercising/running, and would hope that even during pregnancy someday that I can/will continue running (lightly) and some sort of fitness so i dont gain way more than i need to while prego....i have enjoyed reading your blogs, and am excited you and your hubs to have this baby! congrats!

  3. After I had my son I started walking right away. If anything it just gets you out of the house! This is my first time reading your blog but the title really stuck out to me haha... That's how I feel! I can't wait to hear how the l&d goes and to see the baby. Best wishes!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Elizabeth!! I definitely think that walking is going to be the key for me, especially in those early weeks when I'm not yet ready for the gym or running. Plus getting myself and the baby out in the fresh air will be a good thing. Can't wait!
