Exercise Findings

I started writing two posts yesterday and didn't like either - couldn't find my writing mojo - so I just decided to not blog yesterday. It happens.

It's Friday! I can't believe another week is done. Time is flying by. Jillian will be 4 weeks old on Sunday and that just blows my mind. She is changing every day and it makes me sad how fast she moves through phases.

"Oh, hi!"
Such a peanut.

So guess what? Week one of C25K is done! Woohoo!!  I am so happy and excited about the progress I made this week. I started running again for the first time in a long time and it couldn't have gone better.

The program calls for only three runs per week and I pounded those out Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday night's run was good. I actually ended up running in a little rain (hard core), but I kept going. Thursday I took my run to the gym and did it on the treadmill. I gotta say, it was a little harder on the treadmill than it is on the open road. I don't know if i was running faster on the treadmill, or if it was just the general stress I normally feel on the treadmill (always afraid I am going to fall off), but it left me hot and sweaty and winded.

However I did experiment with running while simultaneously reading my Nook. I'm happy to report that I didn't fall flat on my face, and it made time go by faster. Bonus! I actually read a little bit out of all three of my books. And I gotta say, I am not so much liking reading three books at once. I'm tempted to ditch them all and just get a good Elin Hilderbrand book to immerse myself in (love her). But I gotta stick with it.

This week I have also been dabbling in some other forms of exercise. I want to get back into Pilates, because I know that will really help me with my post baby belly.  I was a Pilates freak about a hundred years ago (2002), where I went to classes at my old gym religiously and completely transformed by body.  Seriously, Pilates is no joke and gives you RESULTS.  So I went on to Amazon to see if I could find a DVD that could help me with that.  No such luck (I'm picky about my Pilates DVDs), but I did find something else.

Did you know that Hulu has free workouts on their website?  Yes!  If you go to Hulu and type in Pilates, routines from workout DVDs come up!  Neat!  We used to have this thing on our cable called ExerciseTV, which basically was a library of workout DVDs that you could watch any time through your cable (they even had Jillian's 30 Day Shred on there!).  It was AWESOME, but our cable company took it away and I think ExerciseTV ended up going away completely.  But their workouts live on on Hulu!!!

The other day I found a good Pilates routine that I used to do and I found several Cindy Whitmarsh (LOVE HER!) routines that I used to LOVE - Six Pack Abs, Tank Top Arms and 10 Minute Buns and Thighs.  HELL YEAH!!!!  I have been incorporating those into my days as well.  Fun stuff!

Alright, that's enough babble for today.  I hope you have a fab Friday!

Questions for you ...
- Do you do workout DVDs?
- Did you ever have ExerciseTV?  If yes, wasn't it that bomb?
- What are you up to this weekend?

  1. I'vetried Insanity and that kicks your butt. I need to pull that out again. Would love to try a Pilates video. Just need to find the right one.

Got in 8.05 miles on the treadmill today. Felt great! Would love to do these runs outside, but I prefer to save my knees. After 2 surgeries that involve taking part of the cushioning out of my knees, the treadmill provides a great cushion with the flex deck. Outside is just a little too jarring.

But, I should be ready for the 1/2 marathon in April. Goal: finish. First one in a while, so I just want to finish with no knee pain!

This weekend: more studying for me, karate for the family, getting Daniel a pair of running shoes- he has his first track practice on Monday, cub scout blue and gold ceremony on Sunday, etc. All of the things to look forward to when Jillian gets older.
You will be amazed how much time you don't have to watch TV once the kiddos get older.
