My trip to Connecticut was a good one. I had two days in a workshop, so by the time I got back to my room at night, the last thing I wanted to do was anything that required brain power. So that means my whole mission to learn Mac language didn’t happen. Oh well, another time. I did do a bunch of different stuff on this trip though. I go to Connecticut several times a year and I always stay at the same place, eat at the same restaurants, see the same people, etc. This trip was totally different. I saw and did things I’ve never done in the 6+ years I’ve been going up there.
First, hotel. I stayed at a new hotel in a new city. This was exciting! I saw a totally different part of Connecticut, drove through some amazingly beautiful towns and the hotel was about 100 times nicer than the hotel I normally stay at. Bonus!
I traveled with someone. I don’t normally do this. I met up with my co-worker Beth at the airport on Sunday night and we shared a car the whole trip. This was both good and bad. Good because it was great to have a buddy. And we got totally lost on Sunday night going to this new hotel. Had I been alone, driving around the winding streets of Connecticut by myself at 10:00 at night, I would have been a mess. So I was glad to have her there. Bad because Beth talks incessantly. She doesn’t stop. Like, ever. I talk a lot myself, but with her I could never get a word in edgewise. Or if I started talking about something, she would take over the conversation and totally change the subject to make it about her. I love Beth, but OMG, she talked so much. More about Beth a little later.
I ate new food. I’m such a creature of habit at restaurants. If I find something I like, I order it every time I go there. It’s dumb, but that’s what I do. So this time, I branched out. At PF Chang’s for example, I always get the Chang’s Spicy Chicken because it’s delish. This time, I got Mongolian Beef, and holy cow, I may never order chicken again. It’s the little things. I ate a lot of salad on this trip too. Go me.
I went to the mall. I had no idea there was a mall anywhere near where I used to stay. There is! And a nice mall with a good mix of fancy stores (ie, Louis Vuitton) and affordable stores that I can shop at (ie, Gap). Afterdinner on Monday night we went shopping, because Beth is an avid shopper. I wasn’t planning on shopping because I haven’t seriously shopped since probably March of 2012 (before I got pregnant). We went into a store, J Jill, and they were having a massive sale so I thought, eh, what the heck, I’ll shop around, it’s been a long time, I haven’t tried on pants in ages. I’ve been afraid to. I wasn’t sure what size I was. I can fit into all of my old pants, so I went with that size. And everything I tried on FIT. It was like the shopping heavens opened up and engulfed me. Stuff fit! I tried on a pair of jeans (JEANS) that fit me like a glove. I think the rule is, if you find a pair of jeans that fit, you buy them no matter what they cost. And I did. And they were a little more expensive than I would usually pay for jeans, but I was so elated that they fit that I had to have them. Oh, shopping is fun again. I even bought more than Beth, and that’s a feat.
I worked out. Beth is an avid worker outer and a big dieter. She actually made me feel guilty for not going to the gym and eating bad things. It was kind of annoying. Like I really just wanted a cheeseburger and fries, but because I was with Beth I tried to order healthier things. I didn’t always do it, but I was better with her around. Although I did get a piece of pizza for lunch one day and I could feel her disapproval. With the gym, knowing she was down there at 6am helped me get down there…er, once. I got there on Tuesday morning. Monday, I felt so guilty for not meeting her at 6am, that I went after work before our dinner and shopping trip. The power of Beth. I didn’t go Wednesday because I had a massive headache and she was like “where were you?” Yikes. But we did workout after work during a team whiffleball/kickball game, so that was something. Anyway, yeah, Beth helped me stay on track somewhat.
So yeah, all in all it was a great trip. But I was really glad to get home last night. I missed Jillian so much. She had an awesome week as well, she mastered waving (she waved at me on FaceTime one night), she started saying “dada” and “baba” on demand (so cute) and she cut her first tooth. Seriously, all these milestones in the four days I was gone, so not fair. Needless to say, I was super excited to see her again last night. And now I get to spend the whole three day weekend with her. I cannot even believe it’s already Labor Day weekend – the end of summer. Well, here summer doesn’t end til about November, but you know what I mean. We have no plans for the weekend except a trip to Disney on Monday. Labor Day is the #1 best day to go to Disney because everyone is gone and there are literally no lines. I think I told you this last year too.
Anyway, hope you have a fabulous weekend!
How was your week? Do anything good?
