A Whole New Connecticut Trip

You guys, it has been way too long.  This week has been crazy!  I had grand plans to blog every day while I was gone, but that just didn’t seem to happen, so expect a long post today.

My trip to Connecticut was a good one. I had two days in a workshop, so by the time I got back to my room at night, the last thing I wanted to do was anything that required brain power.  So that means my whole mission to learn Mac language didn’t happen.  Oh well, another time.  I did do a bunch of different stuff on this trip though.  I go to Connecticut several times a year and I always stay at the same place, eat at the same restaurants, see the same people, etc.  This trip was totally different.  I saw and did things I’ve never done in the 6+ years I’ve been going up there.

First, hotel.  I stayed at a new hotel in a new city.  This was exciting!  I saw a totally different part of Connecticut, drove through some amazingly beautiful towns and the hotel was about 100 times nicer than the hotel I normally stay at.  Bonus!

I traveled with someone.  I don’t normally do this.  I met up with my co-worker Beth at the airport on Sunday night and we shared a car the whole trip.  This was both good and bad.  Good because it was great to have a buddy.  And we got totally lost on Sunday night going to this new hotel.  Had I been alone, driving around the winding streets of Connecticut by myself at 10:00 at night, I would have been a mess.  So I was glad to have her there.  Bad because Beth talks incessantly.  She doesn’t stop.  Like, ever.  I talk a lot myself, but with her I could never get a word in edgewise.  Or if I started talking about something, she would take over the conversation and totally change the subject to make it about her.  I love Beth, but OMG, she talked so much.  More about Beth a little later.

I ate new food.  I’m such a creature of habit at restaurants.  If I find something I like, I order it every time I go there.  It’s dumb, but that’s what I do.  So this time, I branched out.  At PF Chang’s for example, I always get the Chang’s Spicy Chicken because it’s delish.  This time, I got Mongolian Beef, and holy cow, I may never order chicken again.  It’s the little things.  I ate a lot of salad on this trip too.  Go me.

I went to the mall.  I had no idea there was a mall anywhere near where I used to stay.  There is!  And a nice mall with a good mix of fancy stores (ie, Louis Vuitton) and affordable stores that I can shop at (ie, Gap).  Afterdinner on Monday night we went shopping, because Beth is an avid shopper.  I wasn’t planning on shopping because I haven’t seriously shopped since probably March of 2012 (before I got pregnant).  We went into a store, J Jill, and they were having a massive sale so I thought, eh, what the heck, I’ll shop around, it’s been a long time, I haven’t tried on pants in ages.  I’ve been afraid to.  I wasn’t sure what size I was.  I can fit into all of my old pants, so I went with that size.  And everything I tried on FIT.  It was like the shopping heavens opened up and engulfed me.  Stuff fit!  I tried on a pair of jeans (JEANS) that fit me like a glove.  I think the rule is, if you find a pair of jeans that fit, you buy them no matter what they cost.  And I did.  And they were a little more expensive than I would usually pay for jeans, but I was so elated that they fit that I had to have them.  Oh, shopping is fun again.  I even bought more than Beth, and that’s a feat.

I worked out.  Beth is an avid worker outer and a big dieter.  She actually made me feel guilty for not going to the gym and eating bad things.  It was kind of annoying.  Like I really just wanted a cheeseburger and fries, but because I was with Beth I tried to order healthier things.  I didn’t always do it, but I was better with her around.  Although I did get a piece of pizza for lunch one day and I could feel her disapproval.  With the gym, knowing she was down there at 6am helped me get down there…er, once.  I got there on Tuesday morning.  Monday, I felt so guilty for not meeting her at 6am, that I went after work before our dinner and shopping trip.  The power of Beth.  I didn’t go Wednesday because I had a massive headache and she was like “where were you?”  Yikes.  But we did workout after work during a team whiffleball/kickball game, so that was something.  Anyway, yeah, Beth helped me stay on track somewhat.

So yeah, all in all it was a great trip.  But I was really glad to get home last night.  I missed Jillian so much.  She had an awesome week as well, she mastered waving (she waved at me on FaceTime one night), she started saying “dada” and “baba” on demand (so cute) and she cut her first tooth.  Seriously, all these milestones in the four days I was gone, so not fair.  Needless to say, I was super excited to see her again last night.  And now I get to spend the whole three day weekend with her.  I cannot even believe it’s already Labor Day weekend – the end of summer.  Well, here summer doesn’t end til about November, but you know what I mean.  We have no plans for the weekend except a trip to Disney on Monday.  Labor Day is the #1 best day to go to Disney because everyone is gone and there are literally no lines.  I think I told you this last year too.

Anyway, hope you have a fabulous weekend!

How was your week?  Do anything good?

NSync Memories

When I finally got to my hotel last night at 10:15 pm (because I got totally lost), I turned on the VMAs to see if I could catch the monumental reunion of NSync. And don't act like that doesn't excite you. You know you loved them.

Circa 2000.  I'm third from the left.

I obviously did. This was back in 2000 at the No Strings Attached tour. Anyone else go to that? Fun story about that... I was teaching high school back then (yes, I was an adult at an NSync concert, shut up) and we had our graduation ceremony at the same arena the concert was at the day after the NSync concert. As teachers we congregated in the bowels of the arena and we had access to the "green room" at the arena. Knowing that the NSyncers were there the night before I thought I'd check out the green room that they were in, touch the walls, sit in the same chair as Timberlake, etc. The room had all kinds of leftover items in it, like half empty soda cans and whatnot in there.

And then I saw it... a blue bandana with rhinestones on it. Much like the ones that Justin Timberlake rocked when he had his afro going on. Like this one.

So I walked right over to it, and I swiped it. I didn't have a purse or anything with me (I was wearing a commencement gown) so what did I do with it? I stuffed it in my bra. Oh yes I did. So yes, I am the proud owner of a sweaty rhinestone bandana belonging to Mr. JT. I was the envy of all my girlfriends. Still am, because how awesome is that? I'm 35 and still consider that sort of cool.

Anyway, I texted that pic from the concert to my gals yesterday, with the message "NSYNC REUNION TONIGHT!!! AAAAH!" Or something to that effect. Because we're dorky like that.

The sad part of this now very long story is I totally missed the NSync reunion on the VMAs due to my traveling, but I DVRed bit back at home. I'm going to do a mad search for it on You Tube tonight.  I did find this pic...

I did catch bits and pieces of the replay and I just have to say WTF is wrong with Miley Cyrus? Seriously it was embarrassing watching her stick out her tongue and grind on Robin Thicke like an immature child. Gross. Like seriously, I was embarrassed for her because she looked like an ass clown. Where is her mother? And why the hell would Robin Thicke, the king of the summer, agree to perform with her and allow her to act like a total dumbass during his awesome song? Can you tell I despise Miley Cyrus? Wasn't sure if you caught that or not.

Alright that's it for now. Happy happy Monday!

Did you watch the VMAs?  Were you an NSync fan?  Any fun fan stories you want to share?  :)

Travel Goals

Hello from the airport!

I totally hate business travel on a Sunday but I have a workshop that starts tomorrow bright and early at 9am so I guess it's necessary.

Sorry for being totally non existent lately. I have not been running or doing anything fitness worthy lately so I haven't had much to talk about. The most exercise I've gotten since Thursday (when I did Julie's functional workout) is chasing Jillian all over the house. She is so fast and gets into everything she shouldn't - TV remotes, books, magazines, coasters - so it's a constant workout to keep up with her. I know, that doesn't count toward race training. But whatevs.

This week while I am away I have goals to get back on track. So here we go...

DO SOMETHING.  I am inherently super duper duper lazy when I travel.  Like, embarassingly lazy.  Like, get in bed at 8:00 and just watch mindless TV while playing Candy Crush lazy.  It makes me a little mad when I look back on it, so I am going to try not to do that this week.  I am staying in a different part of Connecticut this time, so I want to explore.

WORKOUT.  I want to get to the hotel gym, or outside for a walk/run (it's supposed to be in the low 80s up there this week - nice and cool!), at least three days this week. I have to chuckle a little at this goal because I know how L-A-Z-Y I am when I travel (see goal #1 above), but I'm traveling with a lady who is very fitness conscious and exercises everyday so I'm hoping some of her good habits will rub off on me.  Maybe I should lower my goal to two days?

WATER.  I need to drink more water. Yesterday I'm not sure if I drank any. So bad. So I'm gonna make myself rehydrate this week with water, not Diet Coke.

LEARN.  I'm going to Hartford for a workshop and I want to learn something while I am there, so I am going to really focus and do that.  I have a bazillion other work related things going on this week as well, but I need to step away from that and learn something from this workshop.  I am also bringing my Mac with me so that I can learn it.  I always say I have no time when I am home to learn how to use this piece of ... so maybe if I'm away in my hotel all alone I can do that.  Mac for Dummies, here I come.

So that's the plan.  I'm already missing Jilly like crazy.  She went to my parents house for the next couple of days because both Hubs and I are traveling this week (that's great timing), so my parents are beyond excited to have her to themselves for a couple of days.  I am excited for them, but it was tough watching them drive away with her earlier today.  Sniffle.  At least I have pics of my little snuggle puppy to make me feel better.

Alright, I'm outta here.  Hope you're having a fabulous weekend.  Here's to a PRODUCTIVE WEEK!

How about you - what do you hope to get accomplished this week?  Any big goals, workout or otherwise?

Hey! Sorry I'm totally lame his week. Work has been insane-o crazy and then when I come home from work it's Jilly time so blogging hasn't been happening lately.

Running hasn't been happening this week either. I know I know I have a race to train for so I need to be running. But each morning it just hasn't happened. But strength training workouts have happened, so at least I have that going for me. I did another functional workout today that I found on Julie's blog. It was a good one that I will be doing again for sure.  Tomorrow I am planning on getting up and out the door. Gotta do it. Because next week is a travel week, and you know my track record of working out when traveling. Nil.

Alright it's dinner time. Sorry I don't have much to gab about.  Have a great night!

It's Tuesday?

Hi there! It's been a crazy week at work already (and it's only Tuesday!), so sorry for not chatting sooner.

I fully recovered from my 5K on Saturday and I haven't run since. Not because I'm all anti running after my "eh" performance, but because that's what was on my plan for this week

Monday I went to the gym and did some cross training by way of the elliptical and the bike. (I'm so almost done with the ridiculously long book I am reading. I can't wait til it's over, it's not great) And then today I did a BBB workout that incorporated lots of lunges and squats and arms. After that I did an awesome stretching routine that I found on YouTube. Good stuff!

Speaking of BBB I signed up for the Fall session yesterday. Tina was offering $10 off yesterday only so I took the deal and signed myself up since I enjoyed the last round so much. And I need to keep up the strength training because its working! Yay!

Alright, sorry so short, it's baby bath time around here, so I must go!

What's your workout plan this week?

Celebration of Running 5K

Yesterday I got up up early to run the Celebration of Running 5K.

(I was gonna put a picture here from the race, but my computer sucks and I can't seem to retrieve it right now.  I'm so going back to PC because I hate Mac.  Hate.  And I hate that I hate it, but I really hate it.)
It was good, but not great. Some thoughts:

- It was hot. So very hot and muggy.

- The course was just eh. It started in a very nice area, but a majority of the race was on back roads in industrial areas.

- Cobblestone. Scary, uneven cobblestone which made me fear for my life with every step (since I'm clumsy).

- My goal was to run 2/2 intervals, but the heat got to me and I ended up skipping a couple running intervals in the middle of the race. Meh.

I'm not sure how I feel about yesterday. I'm glad I did it, but it makes me worry a little bit about the 10 miler coming up. My plan was to rely on intervals to get me through the 10 miler, but if I couldn't do that in a 5K, how the heck am I going to fare in a 10 mile race? I know obviously the factors will be different for the 10 miler - night race, not quite as hot, better course, etc - but I still worry a smidge. This is why training is so dang important.

As for the Celebration of Running, I don't know that I will do it again. It is Track Shack's premier event that kicks off "running season", but I wasn't all that impressed with it. The start and finish were nice, but the course itself is not one that I'd want to run again. And seriously why does "running season" start August, the hottest month on earth? That's just weird to me.

All in all I am still glad I did it. Although I was whooped all day. I didn't  really leave the couch all day until evening time when we went to Epcot to walk. My legs were über tired, but I knew walking would be good, so we went.

Today in lieu of my long run, I am taking it easy.  I ran three days in a row, so I am taking today as a rest day.  Smart.

And that's about all I have for you  now.  Hope you're having a great Sunday and weekend!

New Training Plan

Happy Friday!

I’ve been thinking a lot about my training schedule I am trying to create for my upcoming 10 Miler and my half marathon coming up in November (which I still haven’t signed up for, but I will!).  And I’m really struggling with which workouts to place on which days.  As a mom to a 7 month old who can wake up anytime between 3am and 9am, it’s hard to know which days your workout will happen and which days it has to take a backseat to this girl.

(OMG, I just want to eat her up)

So instead of plotting out a schedule that schedules a particular workout each day (Monday you Cross Train, Tuesday you do 4 miles, etc), I decided to keep it loose and just list out the workouts I want to accomplish each week and not assign a day to them. That way if something comes up and I can’t do a workout on, say, a Tuesday, I know I can do it any other time that week.  As long as I get them all done I’ll be happy.  This will also help when I have to travel.  I have a ridonkulous business travel schedule coming up (traveling 3 out of 4 weeks coming up – eeek!), so I know workouts are going to be hard to come by.  But I will have to make it work!

So here’s what I have in mind.  These are the workouts I want to achieve in a weeks time between now and October 5th – the day of the Tower of Terror 10 Miler.
  • One 30 min run
  • One 45 min run
  • One Long run
  • Three strength/stretch workouts
  • One Cross Train day (elliptical)

So for example, I can do a 30 minute run and a strength/stretch workout on one day.  Or whatever combination.  My goal is to work out 5 days a week with my long run being Sunday morning.  So that’s the plan.  We’ll see if this works.  I just know that when I make a schedule where it’s plotted out Monday–Tuesday –Wednesday and then I miss a Monday workout, I feel like I failed.  At least this way if I miss a Monday workout, I have all week to make it up, ya know?

So that’s the plan man!  Kind of exciting.  How many weeks do I have before the Tower of Terror?!?!?

Oh, and on that note, I am super duper excited about our team t-shirts.  Amanda, Michele and I decided that we want to all get custom shirts made.  We have a team name and a slogan – it’s going to be epic.  There’s a place where you can make custom t-shirts, so we’re going to go and create something fabulous.  I cannot wait!!  And you know there will be Disney headgear in the mix as well!!

I am suddenly getting very very excited for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler!!!

How about you – do you create a training plan when you are training for a long race?

Fun Before 8am

Why hello!  I had a mighty productive morning this morning, all before 8am!  (although this blog post wasn’t part of that considering it’s now after 1:00

I woke up early and ran for the first time all week.  This week has been challenging.  MondayI didn’t get to the gym because Jillian decided to wake up right when it was time to leave for the gym.  So that was a bust (but nice, morning quality time with little J).  Tuesday I was planning on running after work, but a) it was 1000 degrees out; and b) we had an air conditioning repair guy come out at 5:30 (our upstairs unit was out all weekend – not good in the summertime).  Wednesday I had to be at work at the crack of dawn for a meeting, so nothing happened that day either.  Blah.

So now here we are Thursday – two days before my 5K – I needed to get out and run.  For training purposes and for mental purposes.  I’ve been in sort of a crappy mood all week because work is stressin’ me out and I haven’t had my wonderful stress outlet of working out to help me, so it was really, really good to get out there this morning.  I did a 30 minute run/walk, 2/1 intervals.  I should probably say 1 2 intervals since I’m walking two and running 1, huh?  Anyway, it was awesome.

I was thinking during my run that I need to bump up my running, so tomorrow I am going to bump up to 2/2 intervals and then do that for the 5K on Saturday as well.  I’m pretty sure I did 2/2s during the 4th of July 5K, so I would like to get back to running 2 minutes at a time.  The 2/1s (or 1 2s) are just so comfy though.  But I know I need to get out of my comfort zone, just so I can make a little bit of progress, right?

After my run, I came back and did a BBB workout.  The official program is over now (but a new one starts soon!), but I still have all of my workouts printed out, so I am going to be integrating those into my workout schedule, just to keep strength training in my regimen.  Because that’s important.

So yeah, it felt like a productive morning – run, BBB workout, shower, logon to my computer for work, breakfast, all before 8am.  I love days like that!

What did you do before 8am today?  Any workouts?

I Have a 7 Month Old?!

Happy 7 month birthday to baby Jillian!!

How did this happen?  How is it that 7 months have already passed?

In honor of Jillian’s 7 month birthday, I thought I’d share some of things I have learned in the last 7 months …

- Time goes by lightning fast with a baby.  I feel like if it keeps up this way, we will be packing her up and shipping her off to college in no time.  OMG, crying.

- Sleep is unpredictable.  We were blessed with a wonderful sleeper during the first 6 months.  Jillian slept through the night beginning at 3 months.  But ever since she became Miss Active (crawling and now pulling up and standing – she only wants to stand these days), her sleep habits have changed tremendously.  Now some nights she won’t go to sleep at bedtime, or she won’t stay asleep all night.  This is normal for her age, but man, it’s an adjustment when we’ve been so used to getting a full night’s sleep for the last few months.  We’ve been so spoiled.

- There is nothing better than that moment you walk into her room in the morning and she sees you the first time and gives you a giant grin.  Melts my heart every time.

- There is time for “me time.”  Not much, but I do have time to do things that I want to do, like work out or paint my toenails.  And then on the flip side there are days where I get absolutely nothing for myself done.

- Babies are smart.  Things I thought we’d have to take time and teach her – like crawling and standing up – she just does all of the sudden.  Within a 3 week period we went from scooting to full on crawling to now standing.  How did that happen?

- You can get your pre-baby body back.  It’s true!  I was worried about this, but no more.

- Some days are hard.  And some days aren't.  You never know.

- Jillian is more self sufficient at this age than I thought.  You can put her down in her play area and she can keep herself occupied for a while.

- I am still wondering how our kid turned out so damn adorable.  Seriously, the mix between me and Hubs was the perfect combination – she’s way cuter than either one of us!

- It baffles me that even with 6000 toys, Jillian’s favorite things to play with are remote controls and magazines that she can rip up.

- The surefire way to get Jillian to smile or laugh - show her a picture of herself or put her in front of a mirror.  She LOVES that.

- I value and appreciate my parents (and in laws) more than ever before.  Not that I even didn’t value and appreciate my parents, but it’s even more now.  Hubs and I have the best parents in the world.  Seeing them with Jillian brings me so much joy in my heart.  They love her so much and are so enamored with her, it’s just a really special thing to experience.

- Her fearlessness is enviable.  She is not afraid of a thing and I admire that.

- Life is so much more precious with a baby in it.  I totally get it now.

That’s all I can conjure up right now, but there are like 1,000,001 more things that I have learned in the last 7 months since Jillian entered our lives.  Bottom line, she’s the absolute BEST and I cannot imagine life without that little face!

We are trying pigtails
I just want to gobble her up!

Sunday Funday

Hello and happy Sunday!  It's been a pretty darn good weekend thus far.

Fun day out meeting dinosaurs?  Check.

We met up with Hubs' co worker and his wife who were down from Atlanta at T-Rex Cafe at Downtown Disney. T-Rex Cafe is pretty much Rainforest Cafe with dinosaurs, and it's pretty darn neat.  I wasn't exactly sure how Jillian would take to dinosaurs, but she didn't seem phased by them in the least. It was a fun time.

4.5 miler? Check!

I woke up this morning (after Jillian decided she wanted to party til 1:30am) at 7 and made my way to the gym for some quality reading time, oh and running time. I did 4.5 miles, which I'm pretty sure is the longest I have run since my last half marathon in February of 2012. Yeah, really. It felt great to go a long distance like that (anything over 3 miles I consider "long", FYI). Yay!  OH!  And I got my new gear already!  Amazon rocks!  I ordered it on Thursday and it arrived on Saturday, just in time for my Sunday run.  Woohoo!  Love the new headphones and arm band!

New iPhone? Check!

Hubs and I got new iPhones yesterday. Fun! We were way overdue for an upgrade and went to Target to trade up. They had an amassing deal going on. iPhone 5 for $149 plus they would buy our old iPhone and give us the credit towards the new one, plus $25, and then on top of that they gave us each a $25 Target gift card. So in the end we actually made $30 on the deal. Kind of crazy!! Free iPhones and we still have $30 in gift cards to spend at Target. I heart Tar-jay!

And that's about it. Hope your weekend has been a good one!!

Anyone else run this weekend? Do anything cool?

New Gear

I got some new running gear!

My headphones are so old and gross it’s a little embarrassing.  The little felt covers that cover the speakers are pretty much ripped to shreds.  Not sure how that happens, but okay.  I’m a big fan of the clip over the ear kind, and I hate the ones that go in your ears (even if they do clip over your ears) so I ended up with these.  The reviews on Amazon were all positive - not one negative - so I went with it.

Sony MDR-Q23LP

And then for some unknown reason the plastic screen protector on my iPod armband is ripping off.  Apparently I am very brutal on my music gear while running (?).  So I decided on this super cute pink armband from Amazon.

I love new gear.  Now I just need some new tunes and I’ll be ready to go.  I’ve already started choosing songs for my 10 Miler playlist.  Everytime I hear a song that I love I write it down - I have a list of like 30 songs so far.  Haha.  Everything from Salt n Pepa to JT to Marky Mark - it’s gonna be good.

All of this talk about running and music and ironically today I did not run.  I actually didn’t even set an alarm this morning.  I am toying with going tonight when Hubs gets home, but we’ll see.  The heat index today is over 100, so that might not be a smart idea this evening.  If I don’t run, I will definitely do a BBB workout because I need to do something.  Tomorrow there is an early morning 3 miler on the docket.  Then Sunday, 4.5 miles on the treadmill - the longest I have gone in over a year, wooohoo!   It’s fun getting back to it!

How about you - how many miles are you running right now?  Are you training for anything?

Step Goal Achieved

Hi there!  Sorry it’s been a few days, it’s been busy over here.  Now that I have issues blogging from my work computer (I know, I know, I shouldn’t do that anyway), it’s hard to carve out time when I get home from work with all of the baby shenanigans going on.

Pool shenanigans

First things first, I wanted to check in with my goals from last week – namely my 7,000 steps a day goal.  Check this out.

Ignore, Thursday, but look at the rest of the week.  Goal achieved!

The magic number that is always heard about the number of steps you should take each day is 10,000.  When I first started tracking my steps with my pedometer I figured I would easily hit 10,000 every day since I’m active.  Wrong.  It’s hard to get to 10,000.  Even on days where I run 2-3 miles, I still only get up to 8,000 or 9,000 steps.  It’s kind of crazy how we overestimate how “active” we are when we’re pretty sedentary most of the day (if you work in an office).  So I set my goal at 7,000 just so that I could build up to 10,000 from there.  Like I said, baby steps.

Anyway, I think I did pretty good last week with 6 out of 7 days being over my step goal.  And I achieved that because I got back on the workout wagon last week,  working out 5 of 7 days.  Woohoo!  I’m back!  Five days I accumulated mileage, and I’m really happy about that because training has got to begin for my 10 Miler!!  After doing a long(ish) run on Sunday (4 miles), I feel like I am now “training”, which feels good.  My “long” run this Sunday – 4.5 miles.  Again, baby steps.

This week I’ve only run one day.  After Sunday’s run, my right ankle was a little sore.  I don’t know what’s up with that, but I was not happy about it.  So Monday I just did a Best Body Bootcamp strength workout, and Tuesday I did another BBB workout and took a walk with Jillian – just so I could rest my ankle a little bit.  Today I was ready to run, so I did 2 miles, 2/1 intervals and it felt fine.  Phew.  I’ll try again tomorrow and Friday to prepare for Sunday’s “long” run.

I still need to work on my training program, since we are now only 9 weeks away from the Tower of Terror 10 miler.  Sheesh, coming up quick!

Alright, I am outta here.  Have a great Wednesday!

It Fits!

Well, it’s official... Everything in my closet fits me.  Aah!

Yesterday I decided that I couldn’t stand my closet any longer.  It has looked like it exploded for months now and I have been itching to get in there and try stuff on, purge, put together a Goodwill pile, and just reorganize.  I spent the good portion of Saturday afternoon doing just that.

I tried on every item in my closet, and to my absolute glee, everything I put on fit me.  Eeee!  I did the Perfect Strangers dance of joy because I was so elated about this.

I loved that show in the 80s...

I feel like I have a whole new wardrobe now because I now know I don’t have to wear the same ol’ few pairs of pants and shirts all the time because they don’t fit.  It makes me just so so happy.

So after killing the whole day in my closet, Hubs and I decided that we needed to get out of the house, so off to Disney we went.  We took Jillian to Magic Kingdom to ride her new favorite ride, It’s a Small World.  We took her on this when we went with my parents and aunt last week after her Baptism and she LOVED it.  So we did that and then just putzed around the park for a while.  It was nice to get out and about for the evening.

Checking out those crazy little singing dolls

The nice family in front of us offered to take our pic - unfortunately no flash.
It's OK because I looked crazy with my humidity afro.

This morning I had an agenda.  I was going to get up at 7:30, go to the gym and spend some quality time on the treadmill with my Nook.  4 miles was in my mind, and 4 miles is what I did.  2/1 intervals, in the air conditioning, reading, it was bliss.  I am so so so so so happy I did that.

Afterwards I took my car for a much needed oil change and now I am chillin with Jillian talking to you fine folks.  What a super Sunday it’s shaping up to be!  Hope you’re having a great one!

Did you do any running this weekend?  How far?  Any races?

Cross Country

Ya know, it never rained yesterday.  I knew that was going to happen.  All evening I was in the mood to go for a walk, even if it was just a leisurely walk, but the clouds looked so menacing, so I didn’t go out.  And then it never rained.  Annoying.

Instead of walking (or doing any form of exercise) last night I cooked a healthy dinner.

That green mound is broccoli slaw.  Broccoli slaw – who am I?!  It was delicious with a little bit of Ken’s Lite Asian Sesame with Ginger Soy dressing, yummo!  Seriously, who am I?  I am actually proud, Hubs and I have eaten dinner at home every night this week (a rarity in our house), and we’ve been healthy.  Hubs is doing this cleanse to detox from his cross country road trip/eating fest with J last week (did I not tell you about this?  I will soon) so I am stuck cooking and eating healthy with him.  Bah.  It’s good for me, I keep telling myself this.  Even though I really want a cookie.

This morning I got up and did a 2 miler.  Jillian decided to wake up at 2am this morning hungry.  Seriously, she’s been sleeping through the night since 3 months, now that she’s really active, she’s not sleeping through the night anymore.  We’ve been giving her rice cereal at her bedtime feeding plus a bottle, but she’s still starving in the middle of the night.  Any tips from moms out there on what we should be doing?  I’m stumped.  The doctor said to just experiment.

Anyway, I digress.  Hubs got up with Jillian so I could sleep, but when the alarm went off this morning my first thought was to pull the whole “I woke up in the middle of the night” excuse to get out of it.  But instead I made a deal with myself – “just do 2 miles.”  2 miles is easy – less than 30 minutes, easy loop – so I did it and I’m so glad I did!  This weekend I am planning on a 4 miler on the treadmill.  I haven’t been to the gym in about 3 weeks now, so I feel I need to visit it.  Plus, I haven’t read my book in just about that long too, so I need to do that.  Is it sad that I only read books at the gym or on airplanes?  Yes, yes it is.

So the road trip.  I mentioned that J graduated from high school in June.  What I didn’t mention was her plans for college.  College in California!  AAH!  She has wanted to move to LA since she was 14, so she decided that this was her dream and she was going to make the move.  We were horrified – an 18 year old living in LA (or thereabouts) just out of high school?  OMG! – but when J makes up her mind there is no stopping her.  And because she’s 18 it’s not like anyone can lock her in Florida until she’s 21.

Fast forward to last week and boom, Hubs and J are in her car on a cross country road trip to California (hence the reason I spent the week at my parents house).  They had a blast.  They stopped in Tallahassee for crepes.

New Orleans for beignets.

Every Hard Rock Café near I-10 between here and California (because my husband is a geek).

San Antonio to see the Alamo.

Phoenix… there’s not much going on there.

And finally to J’s new studio apartment in California.

OMG, my step daughter has her own apartment and is living in California.  I'm so old.  It’s surreal.  I’m scared for her, but at the same time super excited for her.  It’s a brand new life and how fun is that?

Have a great weekend!

How about you – did you move far away from home when you went to college, or became “of age?”

It's 5:00 Already?

Hi there. It’s 5:00 already and I haven’t done anything exercise related except work (brain exercise) and chase the baby around the house.  Seriously, she is fast!  And she’s just crawling.  I don’t even know what’s going to happen when she’s walking.  Let’s not think about that.

I decided that I was going to take a break from running today because last night my legs were achy.  Not sure if it was from three whole days of activity, or if it was great the BBB workout I did on Tuesday.  Either way I deemed today “REST DAY!”  However, I feel the need to do something, so I just told Jillian, “let’s go for a walk” and then I looked out the window and noticed that it’s dark out.  Dark scary rain clouds.  I probably have time to do a lap around the neighborhood before it rains, but don’t want to get stuck out in the rain with her.  So that’s not going to happen either.  Meh.

I’ve been really good about my step goal this week.  Monday I got in over 9,000 steps,Tuesday was like 8,900 and then yesterday was 10,150.  My goal was only 7,000 a day mind you.  Although today at 5pm I am sitting at a whopping 1,485.  Yeah, it’s been a busy day of sitting and working (when not chasing Jillian).  Maybe I will try and sneak in an evening jog so I can at least get closer to 7,000.  And now it's thundering, just as I write that.  Meh.

OK, I need to jet.  Miss J over here is getting hungry and restless.

Have a great rest of your day!
