Happy Friday

It is still cold!  And still raining!  I thought it was supposed to be better today, but nope.  Over.  It.  The weather forecast still says 80s starting on Sunday.  It cannot get here fast enough. 


It’s Super Bowl weekend!  I don’t love football (who’s playing?), but I love Super Bowl food!  We are going to a Super Bowl party on Sunday and I’m trying to figure out which of my favorite dips I want to make.  Decisions, decisions.  I really want to make a snackadium, because how cool is this? 


I was watching GMA this morning and they had a feature about Christie Brinkley turning 60 this weekend.  Have you see what she looks like?  It’s amazing. 


This morning I was listening to XM on the way to work and I heard some 80s/90s gems – “I Adore Mi Amore” by Color Me Badd (oh, BH 90210 flashback!!), “Tell it to My Heart” by Taylor Dayne and “It Takes Two” by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock (a fave running song of mine).  I love random mixes of music.

I did not get out of bed this morning for T25.  Boo.  I will make up for it tomorrow.  I did end up doing my workout yesterday while Jillian napped.  Abs Intervals – my abs were on fire!  Tomorrow is Lower Focus, which should be nice and painful.  My legs are still a little sore from earlier this week.  Oh well, pain is good right? 

So happy it’s Friday!  We have no plans (aside from Super Bowl), so that is always good.  I have a bunch of house stuff I want to do because I feel like we have baby stuff everywhere.  Seriously, Jillian’s stuff has reached into every single room of the house now.  It’s a good thing she’s cute!  Here’s a pic from her 1 year old photo shoot.

Too Cold To Workout

It. Is. COLD!

On Tuesday, the high here was 80.  It was gloriously sunny, warm and beautiful.  I had the patio doors open and actually sat outside working for a while.  It was so nice.  

On Wednesday, the high was supposed to be 58 (brr) and it was supposed to be rainy and dreary all day.  The high only got into the mid-40’s all day, which is downright arctic for us.  I came home last night and was so cold I immediately went and took a hot shower just to warm up.  I know, I’m such a weenie.  I cannot deal with cold, because when I get cold, it takes me so long to get warm.

Today is the same as yesterday, dark, dreary and cold.  High of 60 projected for today, but it’s currently only 47 and it’s almost noon.  Brr.

  

And then this weekend apparently it’s going to be in the 80s.  Wha?  I hate winter, it’s so up and down and unpredictable.  I am so ready for the warm weather to be here permanently.

Anywho, I did that nice little interlude about the weather as a preface to why I didn’t get out of bed and do my T25 this morning – it was TOO COLD!  I literally had the covers up to my chin the entire night, it was so cozy.  So when my alarm went off, I thought about the fact that the heat wasn’t on upstairs (we did have it on downstairs) and that it would be frigid up there while doing my workout, so I decided to just stay in bed.  It was lovely.  I put my workout clothes on when I got out of bed to remind me to do my workout later this afternoon when Jillian naps, so that is the plan.

Ugly Shoes, Weird Feet

I have ugly shoes.

I know it, I admit it.  I actually hate shoes.  I wear shoes for comfort and functionality rather than looks.  And 90% of the time I am wearing open toed shoes, because I live in Florida and I can get away with that.  So for me to actually have to stuff my feet into “real” shoes – like heels, pumps, the like – it’s kind of a pain in the butt…or, foot.

The other day Hubs told me that I was wearing some of the ugliest shoes he’d ever seen me wear (lovingly, of course).  Rightfully so, they were a pair of slip on, mule flats that are like 100 years old.  They are pretty ugly, but very comfy.  But he got me thinking about something that I have known for a long time – I have ugly shoes.  There have been times where I have said to myself, “I just need to get rid of all of my shoes and start all over,” but I’ve never actually acted on that, because the thought of that just scares the bejeezus out of me.

Shoes don’t fit me well.  I have two very different sized feet.  My left foot is a full half size smaller than my right.  So when I buy shoes I’m either stuffing my big foot into a smaller pair of shoes to appease the small foot, or the shoe on my left foot is just big and flopping around to appease my right.  It’s a big pain and mainly why I primarily wear open toed shoes with no backs (“slides” I guess they are called). 

The other day I was out shopping and saw a pair of really cute, basic black patent leather pumps and I said to myself, “this is it, this is my sign, I need to buy these because they are exactly the type of shoes I would never buy but need to have in my shoe wardrobe.”  I tried them on in the store and they fit my big foot fine and they fit my small foot fine (not too flopsy), and felt pretty okay, so I bought them.

Today I decided to wear them to work.  I HATE THEM.  Within minutes the toes on my big foot were numb because they were so scrunched up, and I walked out of my left shoe because it was so flopsy.  HATE.  I actually brought a pair of (old, but comfy) boots with me to work (because I knew this would happen) and changed into them at lunchtime.  Best decision ever.

This is why I don’t buy nice shoes.  I wear them once and then I realize I hate them and I never wear them again.  Seriously, what the heck is wrong with my feet? 

Real life problems here.

One pair of shoes that always fits (and feels good), my running shoes.  I strapped those puppies on again this morning (I’m on a roll!) and did the Cardio T25 workout.  It was great, but man, it was tiring.  No breaks, constant jumping, good for the heart rate.  Good workout.  If only I could just wear my running shoes with everything, that would be nice.

Running in Celebration Memories

Hi there!  Two days in a row I am blogging.  Impressed? 

This morning I was impressed about my ability to wake up a second day in a row to do T25.  Oh, I can feel a “routine” starting up again. Hallelujah!  Today I did Total Body Circuit (my fave) and it was great.  Harder than normal (since I haven't done it in a while), but it felt good.  Afterwards I did some weights and called it a workout.  I am just thankful that I didn’t sleep in today and say “eh I’ll do it later” because I have found that later for me never comes.  If I don’t work out first thing in the morning, it doesn’t happen.

In my blog reading and Instagram checking over the weekend I saw that Carissa at Fit2Flex ran the inaugural Celebration Marathon.  Say what?  There’s a marathon (and half marathon) in Celebration?  And I did not know about this?  Celebration is my absolute most favorite place to run.  We used to live there, and it is actually where I started running.  I like to say it’s where I learned how to run. 


For those who don’t know, Celebration is a planned community out by Disney and actually used to be owned by Disney back in the day.  It’s a beautiful little town with gorgeous houses, a fun little downtown area and tons and tons of tree lined sidewalks and running trails all around town. 





So freakin' beautiful. 

It’s where I like to do all of my “long runs” when I train for half marathons because there are so many route possibilities to get 10 or 11 miles in without having to run in circles.  (I say this like I do long runs all of the time.  I think my last training run in Celebration was in 2011, which is where all of these pics came from)

Anywho… Carissa hasn’t posted a race recap yet, so I am dying to find out all of the details around the race – how many people ran, how the course was, all of that.  I suspect this was a smaller race (it wasn’t a big sponsored event by our local running store) so I want to get all of the details about it.  I’m putting it on my list of races I want to do next year (or someday).  I know, didn’t I say I was going to stop running long races?  I can’t help it.  They are so intriguing to me.

I'm Back

Hi, I’m Kerry (if you’ve forgotten), and I’m back! 

So sorry for the longer than anticipated hiatus from writing (and exercising), but life is now officially back to normal chaos (versus crazy chaos), so I feel like I can get back to normalcy around here.  Not that my life is “so busy” or anything, but it’s just been hard to fit in blogging (and exercise) lately.  But I’m happy to say that I’m back on track with both.  So, yay!

This morning, after taking a three week breather, I ramped up the T25 again.  Yeah, I know Shaun T didn’t intend for me to do the first 5 weeks (Alpha series), take a 3 week break, and then do the second 5 weeks (Beta series), but oh well.  I actually decided to not jump right back into the Beta series, just because I wasn’t sure if I could even jog in place for 20 seconds without falling over (since I have done literally nothing active besides running after Jillian), so I am going to do a week of Alpha and then start Beta next week.  Yeah, I messed this up.  Oh well, I’ll do the series again all the way through, I like it that much.

Today I did Speed 1.0 and it kind of kicked my ass.  I figured it would.  It felt really good though.  I haven’t sweat in ages and it just felt good to sweat, get my heart rate up, all that good stuff that a workout brings.  Ah, I have missed you T25 (and exercise in general).

All of this inactivity makes me just a little bit nervous about my impending half marathon coming up in…oh…less than a month.  Geez, here I am again freaking out about a long race because I haven’t trained.  Yeah, if you’re looking for some guidance on how to properly train for a half marathon, I am definitely not your girl.  I have gotten so used to just winging it when it comes to long races (so, so bad), however, they always turn out to be just fine in the end (remember the Tower of Terror 10 Miler?), which is probably why I do this to myself.  It’s dumb, I know, and one day I am going to really train for something, I swear, but for the Princess Half Marathon this year I will be winging it again.  (sigh)

I will be working more running and walking into my life this weekend (I have a plan), along with my T25 training (which will hopefully help me build endurance, since it’s all jumping and crazy cardio and stuff), so I am on my way … hopefully.

I Am Alive

You guys! It's been so long! Life is so super crazy busy right now. Work is nuts, so my blogging time is eaten by meetings and general craziness during the day (I know, I probably shouldn't plan blogging during work hours huh?) and then when I get home I just want to play with Jillian and decompress and not think. Once I get over the proverbial work hump I will be back to normal operating procedures around here (including working out, which I have not been doing much of!). 

Just wanted to check in and let you know that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, forgotten about the blog, or retired like other bloggers (I totally miss SR!). I will be back in a couple days so stay tuned!! :)

Hello!  It's been a few days.  As you can imagine, Jillian's birthday has been the center of our universe for the last couple of days so that's why I've been silent for a few days.  Just thought I'd check in to share some fun photos from the last couple of days.  It's been fun!!  Now that everyone is gone and the house is quiet again, things will be back to normal around here.  (i.e., I haven't worked out since 2013… no, not true, I haven't worked out since January 3rd….oy)

Go Go Go

So all that stuff I said in my last post how I wanted to clean up my eating, get back to my workouts, seize the “if not now, when?” and “stop wishing, start doing” mentality.  Well, that’s going to have to wait until AFTER Jillian’s 1st birthday party.  Ever since I got home on Wednesday night I have been in go go go go mode getting everything ready for that.  There is SO much to do before Sunday (actually before Saturday when my aunt comes) that I can’t even focus.  So working on “me” ain’t happening until Monday, mmmkay?

 

This weekend, if you haven’t heard, is the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend and I have to say I’m a little jealous I’m not part of it (not that I could have fit it in with everything going on, but still).  This is the second year in a row that I haven’t participated (last year I was 9 months pregnant and didn’t think running a half marathon would be smart) and even though I am nowhere near “running ready,” I really wish I were participating. 

 

This is the first year of the “Dopey Challenge” – running the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon all the span of four days (which is just ridiculosity) and it’s the first year of the 10K, which I desperately wanted to do, but it sold out in one day.   I don’t know anyone whose running it (anyone know of any bloggers running any of the races?) so I’m going to keep up with the weekend through Carissa’s Fit2Flex blog (I’d link to it, but I haven’t figured out linking on my Blogger app just yet).  She is a race announcer for all of the races, so she’s been posting about the expo and the 5K and all of the stuff that’s been happening.  Fun!  Next year, I’m making a comeback.  And in between there I’m doing the Princess and the Tower of Terror again, so I won’t go through 2014 without a Disney race, no not me.

Stop Wishing, Start Doing

So my  co-workers told me to leave a little bit early for the airport because of traffic and whatnot, so I left 2.5 hours before my flight. It took a whopping 30 minutes to get to the airport, get checked in and get through security. Now I'm sitting at my gate with two hours to spare. Yay. While this is great from a relaxation standpoint (I can chill, read, blog, do absolutely nothing)  I'm always anxious in airports. Not anxious in a bad way, but in an "ok let's get this show on the road already" way.  Oh well, life could be worse, I could be in an airport that was heavily affected by all of the crazy weather this week with crowds galore. Thank God I'm not. 

I am quite perturbed with myself today. Three days of no exercise. I had every opportunity to work out on this trip. I lugged my exercise gear and shoes with me, I even planned out a hotel room workout that I could do. Did I do it? No. Did I do anything? No. I could have made my triumphant return to the elliptical machine (a machine I have not been on in many moons).  Did I? No. I did visit th gym at the hotel to fill up my water bottle a few times, it was a very nice gym. Now I'm kicking myself for being dumb. Grr. 

Things are going to change when I get home. I'm getting back on track with T25, I'm going to go on daily walks outside (and maybe start some training for that half marathon I have coming up, heh), and Hubs and I are going to eat better. We talked about this before I left. He told me he wants to eat meals that have vegetables in them. I take full responsibility for his lack of veggies because I never (or extremely rarely...umm okay never) cook veggies. So if I don't cook it, he doesn't eat it. 

We talked about the fact that we eat out all the time and when we do we make poor choices. Case in point, we went out the other night with Jordyn and Ronnie (her BF) to celebrate Ronnie's birthday. We went to a restaurant where we ordered sirloin steak. Good choice. On the side? I got steak fries (they go with steak) and he got loaded buttery, cheesy mashed potatoes. We joked about how we never order the steamed veggies or the salad. We shouldn't joke about this, we need to make better choices and it starts now. 

If not now, when? 

I want to stop talking about doing something, or saying "I wish I did this or that" ... DO IT. I always say "I wish I are vegetables" or "I wish I ran as much as I used to", it's time to stop wishing and start DOING. 

So that's what I'm gong to focus on. I'm adding that to my 2014 TO DO list, stop wishing, start doing!!!

Not a Popsicle

Last night I learned something.  Blogger has an app.  An app where you can blog from your phone and add pictures and stuff like that.  Why did I not know about this?  I’ve been blogging from my phone when I don’t have a computer handy for two years now, not knowing that there’s an app that makes that super easy and allows you to add pictures (which is what I was trying to do last night in my post).  I’m so excited about this that I’m blogging from my phone again today (because the internet on my work computer is all kinds of jacked up).  Sorry for the lame babble here.

 

I didn’t freeze last night or this morning despite the single digit weather here in Charlotte.  It was painful walking out to the car this morning though.  I was well covered – hoodie underneath my coat, scarf wrapped around my neck multiple times, gloves and my awesome new hat – but it was still dang cold.  I looked at the weather at home and it was in the 30s this morning there.  And then I looked ahead and by Friday it’s supposed to be 83.  Hallelujah.  My aunt from Chicago (the sub arctic) is coming on Saturday and was delighted to hear that it was going to be “summer weather” while she was in Florida. 

 

I’m happy for the warmer weather because Jillian’s birthday party is on Sunday and I was hoping for weather where we could open up the doors to the patio and have people mingle inside and out.  Looks like it’ll be perfect weather for that. Yay.  I am so stinkin excited about Jillian’s birthday.  I can’t believe it’s her birthday already.  The year just went by way too fast. 



Wow. 

 

I did not work out last night.  By the time I got done with what I was working on (and watching The Bachelor) it was 10 o’clock and I thought that jumping around my room probably wasn’t the best idea and would keep me up half the night.  Tonight, I am planning on doing something because I’m missing T25 and just activity in general (I have been sitting in a classroom for 8 hours a day not moving much – ugh).

Here You Go


Hello From Charlotte

((OK my work computer sucks so I'm blogging from my phone... ))

Hello from North Carolina!  I got in late yesterday afternoon and it was scary foggy.  Like, as we were landing, we couldn't see the ground at all until we were actually on the ground.  That makes for quite a startling landing.  One minute you're wondering "I wonder how high up we still are" and then BOOM you're on the runway.  Crazy.  Thankfully today there was no crazy fog. 
 
No fog, but COLD.  Today was a high of 40, which is cold for me.  Tonight, Charlotte is getting the same treatment as the rest of the country and it's going down to 8.  8.  Is that a real temperature?  8?  That's single digit.  That's nuts.  My co-worker Amy and I walked to dinner this evening (because we're nuts) - it was 24 degrees - and decided to stop in the hotel gift shop to buy proper headgear.

Since I have been literally sitting on my butt all day long,  I planned to workout in my room this evening.  I was going to do the 7 minute workout app three times through.  And then I got to my room after dinner, plopped down on my bed, Face Timed with Jillian and Hubs and then started watching The Bachelor.  Now I'm not in the mood.  Maybe I'll get a burst of energy - or just a need to get warm. We will see.
 
Alright, I must go, Juan Pablo has just met all of the bachelorettes, now it's time for the cocktail party where all the cray cray happens (that's Bachelor-speak).  Have a fabulous night and stay warm!  And pray I don't turn into a popsicle over here! 
 
How cold is it supposed to be where you live tonight?  I think pretty much everyone is getting blasted with cold weather, right?

BRR....

Hello from frigid Florida!  OK, so it’s not frigid by normal standards, but our high today is only supposed to reach the upper 40s and that is downright arctic for us.  It’s so exciting though.  My hair has never looked so good.  Cold weather really agrees with it. 

Today’s weather is just practice for next week.  I have to go to Charlotte next week for work (don’t worry, I won’t be wearing my new Dockers, only suits and fancy pants for me!) and the weather is only supposed to be in the 30s for a high.  Sheesh!  Thankfully I am not planning on being outside for any length of time while I am there.  Hotel, car, work, car, hotel – that’s all that I have planned.  Since I’ll be traveling, that’s going to throw a wrench into my T25 schedule.  Boo!  But I am planning on bringing clothes so I can (hopefully!) visit the hotel gym.  Although, you know my track record with that, we’ll see if I actually do it. 

Last night after work I started to feel guilty for having skipped my T25 workout for the day so I did it before dinner – the beauty of a 25 minute workout, you can fit it in anywhere, anytime.  The workout was called Dynamic Core, and wow, it was definitely all core focused.  It was tough stuff.  But at the end I felt good and strong.  Today’s workout was Upper Focus and it was all arms.  Loved it.  I love arm workouts and will definitely be doing this workout even after I finish with the “official” T25 program. 

Alright, this is a short post, but it’s time to jet out of here for the day.  I can’t believe it’s already the weekend.  What a weird week this has been!  Have a great Friday night and a great weekend.  Talk to you from Charlotte, if not before!

GO UCF!

Hola!  We stayed up way too late last night watching UCF in the freaking fantastic Fiesta Bowl.  Holy cow, it was fabulous.  I don't even watch football, but we were riveted the entire game.  It was so good!  UCF won their first major bowl game 52 to 42, in a huge upset (Baylor was favored by 17).  So awesome!  



In all of the excitement I forgot to set my alarm this morning and ended up sleeping in and not doing my T25 workout.  Way to go, me.  Ah well, tomorrow is another day.

A New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

How was your New Year's Eve?  Did you do anything fun?  We were asleep by 10:30 and then woken up at midnight by the ridiculous amount of people blowing up fireworks in our neighborhood until 2am.  Ugh, rude.

I slept in this morning until 8:30 (which was glorious) and decided to get up and start the new year on the right foot by working out.  Today on T25 was the "Rip't Circuit" workout and it was fun!  We actually incorporated weights into this one, so that was exciting.  It was a mix of cardio, strength, core, you name it.  A nice change of pace from the non-stop cardio.

Today is a downright nasty day here in Florida.  Dark, dreary, cold, so we have done minimal stuff all day.  We watched White House Down (hi Channing Tatum), I cleaned out and organized my iPod (something that has been on my To Do List for like 6 months) and I got a New Year's pedicure, because it was MUCH needed.  Now I'm talking to you fine folks.

It's the first day of the year, so it's time to make a list of all of the things I hope to accomplish.  As I mentioned the other day, I have a bunch of lists (I'm Type A and make lists for literally everything in life) so I will spare you from sharing everything, but here are some "me" items that I hope to accomplish in the new year.

Cook more and eat at home more
We eat out a lot, which is bad. It's expensive and fatty (but so good). This year I vow to cook more meals at home so that we don't have to go out so much. And now that Jillian can eat real people food, this is even more important now.

Keep exercising
I don't really need to set a resolution to work out because it's just inherent in my nature. But this year I want to experiment with workouts. I always just gravitate back to running as my main form of exercise and I want to see what else I can do. I'm loving the T25 workouts I'm doing now and would love to keep up with this type of intense style workout.  I also miss the gym. I haven't set foot in my gym since August (thank God my company reimburses me for my gym membership, ha) so I would like to get back there as well.

Run two long races
I know I said I was retiring from running a while back, but I'm not really going to do that. I am going to be more selective of the races I do and not just haphazardly sign up for all of the (Disney) long runs. Because let's face it I'm really bad at training properly and then I freak out in the month leading up to the race. Who needs that stress? I do want to run something other than a half marathon, like a 10K or 15K (there aren't enough 15Ks in the world). So I will be on lookout for those.

Take vitamins everyday
I eat poorly. I am sure I do not get the recommended amount of nutrients from the foods I eat, so I need a multi vitamin. And I need to remember to take it every single day!  I will work on this.

More fruit
I don't know what happened, I used to be a fruitaholic and now I barely eat it! It's so weird. So fruit will be making a comeback in 2014.

Don't be wasteful
If you look under my bathroom sink I have like 10 bottles of half used shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. And then I go out and buy more. I am going to "shop under my sink" the next time I feel like I need a new product. Same goes for food. I buy food (bags of salad, lunchmeat) and then don't eat it and then I have to throw it out because it goes bad. Not cool.  So no wastefulness over here in 2014.


Read more
I only read 10 books in 2013, which is a dip from the previous year, so I am going to set my goal at 12 this year.  We'll see.  I get a majority of my reading done on airplanes when I travel and at the gym, so there's another excuse to go back to the gym.  

I am sure there is more, but that is all I can conjure up for now.  If I think of anything else great, you know I'll let you know - whether you want to hear about it or not!
